From a filmmaking standpoint there's a lot that's not quite right with this film. There's just far too much going on at times. Some cuts are really abrupt & sometimes the humor is completely out of place. There are too many important characters. The entire adam warlock arc was far too rushed, which is a shame because the actor did a great job.
Ultimately all this doesn't really matter though because the things this film gets right, it executes amazingly well. It has the most heart out of any marvel film to date. It manages to be really funny and incredibly emotional at the same time. It does this better than thor 4 or even thor Ragnarok ever could. It's downright dark at times and gives even more emotional depth to the protagonists than the previous films. Where countless franchises have failed before it, GOG actually manages to finish a trilogy in incredibly satisfying fashion. All the characters are given an amazing send off and while it's the weakest of the 3 films technically speaking, it's grander, more emotional and serves as an amazing finale to a thoroughly enjoyable space journey.
