Ultraviolet (2006)
insanely good
It's mind boggling that so many people don't like it. I personally find it unbelievable that people say the movie is boring. Far from it. This movie is everything Aeon Flux was supposed to be but wasn't. Ultraviolet has it all - action choreography, costumes, weapons, sets, all that loaded with style, lots of style, polished right down to the last minute detail. And of course Mila rocks, no doubt about it. True, the dialog is somewhat clunky t times, but that's one very very minor quibble. There are are quotable one-liners for sure. Just how cool is Mila delivering "Watch me"? Tres cool, believe me.
What else could one possibly want from a movie that's pure escapist fun? Free your mind and enjoy the ride. I want it on DVD very badly.
The Prophecy: Forsaken (2005)
man, what a sad joke...
what's up with dimension these days ? both their latest franchise installments (the prophecy and hellraiser)are just incredible bad. the previous installment was bad, but watchable thanks to kari wuhrer and shaun pertwee, this one is much worse. i am glad Chris walken left the series.
why are angels supposed to look like a bunch of retarded bums? ridiculous... what's up with the piece of haut couture accessoire tony Todd wears around his neck? what's up with little girl's teeth? man, i was laughing so loud, i fell off my chair...
tony Todd and Jason lee are badly miscast. don't get me wrong. tony shines in the remake of the "night of the living dead" and "candyman".
the guy who plays Satan, although probably the ladies will find him charming, completely lacks dept and maturity, required for his part...
the story is non-existent. although kari wuhrer is good that does not justify wasting your time...
please, please dimension, next time hire: 1 capable director, 1 capable script writer and one capable 1 designer. at least...
Banlieue 13 (2004)
simply amazing
raffaelli is a lean mean fighting machine!
i must admit i picked up the movie for the sole purpose of testing my french comprehension skills, so i did not expect much. boy was i wrong. it's an exuberant exercise in escapism. brilliant.
it's done with style. the music featured is not my kind of music, but it fits well and did not bother me at all.
the action is top notch. raffaelli is one incredibly gifted stuntman. i admired his work in "brotherhood of the wolf", but in b13 he surpasses all expectations.
move over jacky chan, the new king of raw action is here.
Hellraiser: Hellworld (2005)
totally inept - i feel insulted
i want that hour and something of my life i spent watching this back. how this ever got greenlighted, for god's sake? the previous installment was excellent, but this one is simply abysmal.
i am a HUGE fan of the franchise and never got bored watching any of the previous movies, but i couldn't finish this one. what a bore... easily the crappiest movie i have seen this year.
plot - what plot ? acting - what acting ? scenes lifted from other movies all around. even lance seemed bored, the expression on his face, clearly saying - i know it's crap, but, hey, at least it'll pay the rent...
Hellraiser: Deader (2005)
excellent
i had very low expectations after the rather disappointing part 6. and i was pleasantly surprised.
the movie was excellent. great atmosphere, great casting. i must admit that i have a soft spot for kari, but still the movie rules. i am a big fan of the hellraiser franchise, but after III it's has been going steadily downhill (with the exception of inferno). now i have hopes again.
why people complain about pinhead's lack of screen time? don't get me wrong, pinhead is a great character and doug is a cult actor, but a movie can be entertaining even without him.
time passes folks, the first movie undeniably bears the atmosphere of the 80s, but the 80s are long gone and the new installments feel differently. that does not necessarily mean they are subpar.
i love you kari.
