Star Trek: Discovery (2017–2024)

Disappointed in new series
3 November 2017
I was so excited to see a vulcan (human? lol) on deck in episode one. After losing Leonard Nimoy, really wanted a vulcan that would show as strong a character as he did in the past. The gal, meaning no offense, who is playing human but raised Vulcan (Burnham) is so disappointing. She has no presence like Leonard Nimoy or Nichelle Nichols. Her voice is disappointing too. She would be better in a lesser part and replaced with another gal who could deliver. I blame casting. It takes a certain actor to catch attention while in a sci fi series and in particular in a Star Trek series. I believe the fans except so much. It bothers me enough not to continue watching the series or even recommend it to others. The rest of cast seems wonderful so far but I have watched enough series to know that a series lead cannot be held up by rest of cast. Eventually, it suffers. I am a staunch Star Trek fan and am sorely disappointed. Thank you for listening to my opinion.

Vince Vaughn saves this movie...
27 May 2016
Vince Vaughn saves this movie somewhat but can't keep it afloat for long. There are good character actors in movie but my main complaint, in my opinion, is about editing and actress playing his daughter. She just isn't convincing as a teenager and I wouldn't have missed her at all if she was bumped off earlier. Please, please, I say to you movie directors, cast lead actors so that they are convincing in their relationships with each other. We should have some feeling about their relationship and I do not, sorry to say. I definitely was waiting for words to fall off the lips of Vince Vaughn, I just think he is a spectacular actor, but he can't save scenes where he receive's limp come-back speech from daughter. I am not sure if the chemistry (is that the word?) was not working between father and daughter but I wasn't interested. I tried really hard to be. I actually felt Vince Vaughn did the best he could but she seems to only react, not act with her father. I love the humor, Vince Vaughn and others do not disappoint in that, and I actually love his hair now. He looks different in a great way.

Chasing Shadows (I) (2014)
9/10
Absolutely absorbing and entertaining.
8 March 2016
It was very entertaining and thought provoking. Character development was obvious, well-done, and direction of plot well-paced. Any series that gives one a tie or understanding with characters and story is a good one in my book. Loved the interaction between DS Stone and Ruth Hattersley. Would definitely like to see a return of this pair. There is so much potential and possibility for this series if powers-to-be would only bring it back for an encore. My family and friends just watched this series and we all loved it so much. We felt we knew the characters and related to their actions throughout the series, especially DS Stone. We constantly laughed over the things he said without any inhibition, because we know some of those things are what people would really want to say and don't, because we are too politic in these modern days. So refreshing! Please bring it back for an encore performance.

Murdoch Mysteries (2008– )

Refreshing series and so addictive.

Love the diversity of casting, attention to detail in wardrobe, and intelligent script-writing in this series. It is absolutely rewarding to watch and one can't wait for the next episode. It seems to be a mixture of the two series Monk and Sherlock Holmes rolled into one. It has the genius to interest us and the humor to laugh at itself occasionally. Rarely have we been blessed with such a magnificent success on television. It is movie quality in every episode. However, there is one recurring bit of bother to me in the series, and that is the stabs at America. I am aware of political differences in the past, but it seems like 100% of the stabs are so awful that it bothers me some. I live in USA but have never in my life (I am 60 years old.) heard anything negative about Canada. Not in school while growing up, not when I lived in California, and not when I traveled to Europe.) Maybe it is me, but it is sad to hear these disparaging remarks during this time in the world, where hating my country seems to be becoming a favorite pastime of many. This is a great series, but it makes me uncomfortable to feel like our country is pictured as continual bad guy throughout series. Politics and egos in the past centuries were shared by every country, province, etc., not just in America. There are more "stabs at America" than I feel comfortable with, and yes, I know that I don't have to watch it, but I really love this show. Just wanted some input, please. Some helpful observations maybe. Oh, and yes, I realize that profiling countries is not unique to this series, but I just thought of Canada as a wonderful neighbor, not a disgruntled enemy of the past. The writers must realize that even though this series is based in the past, hating America is based in the now, unfortunately. Thank you so much for letting me share this to you all.

Forever (2014–2015)

Thank you for the memories Forever
10 May 2015
Thank you so much to the actors/actresses and writers of the ABC show Forever. My family and I have enjoyed welcoming this show into our homes and our lives every week. We are so very disappointed to learn that Forever will not return for a Season 2. This show was intriguing, witty, and intelligent. One of the only shows on television that our whole family turned out to watch (covering an age span of 14-59 years.) Forever had something for everyone in its episodes, and that is saying something. ABC has perhaps made a not so well thought out decision from our point of view. Good luck to everyone involved in this series, especially as mentioned, the writers and the actors/actresses. I am sure all involved in Forever will find good work in the future. This series was a perfect resume. Optimus felicis ad vos omnes.
