Monster High (1989)
Complete trash
This is an awful movie and I'm surprised that I managed to make it through 58 minutes of this garbage. This movie tries to be funny, but it fails miserably. This a B movie and I enjoy B movies even though many of them can be considered bad, but this movie is not even so bad it's good. It is so bad that it's just bad. The action, costumes, and character ideas are idiotic. Mr. Armageddon's voice is ear grating and I don't understand why he couldn't have a normal voice. I guess this movie is good for people who like boobs in movies because that is almost all this trash has. This is the worst movie that I have ever watched in my life and that is saying a lot. It's saying a lot because not all B movies that I watch are winners and I have seen many of them.
Oculus (2013)
A fun horror movie
This is a fun horror movie from start to finish. The mirror as the focal point of the movie is a much different take on horror movie plots, but it works very well. I see why the online reviewer Nostalgia Critic called this a new Halloween classic. I also see this movie becoming an actual classic when many more years go by. There is no murderer or even any common haunting...the film makes it clear that the mirror is either haunted or it is the insanity of the main characters. It was great to see how well done the movie's interweaving of the past and the present was. Whether or not the mirror is truly causing everything, the horror is still phenomenal and the special effects are very scary. It was especially enjoyable because I watched this with my aunt and cousin.
Ghost Riders (1987)
Strange movie
This was a very strange movie and I'm not sure if the genre horror can accurately describe it. It is a mix between horror, action, western, romance, and drama. That mix doesn't work. It's not scary, there isn't much action, it's barely a western, the romance is very slight, and the drama isn't very dramatic.
The plot of the movie is that an outlaw and his gang who were executed in the late 1800's rise from the dead 100 years later. They want to kill the current generation of the preacher who had them executed.
The VHS cover made it seem like the outlaws would be skeleton ghosts on horses when they rise from the dead, but they weren't. They looked the same way they did before they died and they never say anything as ghosts. They were silent and non-scary. I'm not surprised that this movie never made it to DVD or Blu-ray.
A Grandmother's Tribe (2007)
Great moving documentary
This look into the lives of African grandmothers, who raise their grandchildren because their parents died of things such as AIDS, is fantastic. It is a heartwarming look into their lives and the lives of their grandchildren. The conditions are bad and food is scarce, but it is inspirational how they still keep striving and try to be as happy as they possibly can. This documentary also shows that people can be happy without many luxuries. It is their family and friends that keep them together and stable. I wonder how the people in this documentary are doing now because it was released in 2007. While I highly enjoyed this documentary, I think that it could be even longer. I recommend this documentary to anyone who wants to learn about important world issues and who might want to help the cause.
