Ugh
25 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Was finally getting over Zoey and Aaron's train-crash relationship.

It's been so long since something fresh has happened to Zoey. Can't believe so many years of her just going back to the same person has ended with this again.

Was really looking forward to see her hustle in New York or something, away from this drama. Can't believe they've just abandoned our girl's career from the audience. Her fashion stuff used to be fire

Really enjoyed the brief period they broke up and tried new stuff. I have no idea in what world one says yes to marry an ex-boyfriend you've never even discussed marriage with... that too after break up.

Disappointing, they've butchered Katara's character
28 March 2024
How intensely disappointing. In the original this is the episode where Katara rages. She is aghast at the suggestion that she is not good enough to water bend and instantly launches hell on the sexist master

In this one a docile Katara titters and only challenges the master after her brother tells her to do so. She doesn't even seem too bothered by the Master, almost instantly retreating.

Honestly the casting and writing of Katara is so bad. The actress playing the Northern princess would've been so much more suitable, she's feisty, can emote and has the spunk it would take to unleash hell when provoked... without needing her brother's approval. God knows what the writers and directors were thinking with this one or why they'd even want to dilute their main female protagonists storyline and character.

Has the depth of a saucer
16 March 2024
The screen age of Vijay Varma and his screen mother is the same. Both look like they're in their 40s, in fact Grusha Kapoor looks a year or two younger

The entire film functions on the same level of absurdity in every aspect. Everyone is strangely blasé about the murder and police but they all have their secrets

Apparently Sara and Vijay are the same age, and she was taller than him when younger. I have absolutely no idea how old Sara is supposed to be in this scenario. Are they both 25? Are they both 45?

Either way, the film is kind of fun, even if it is super shallow. No idea why its listed as horror though.

Overall its a pleasant watch, has interesting characters, and the mystery is decently cloaked till the end.

Cliche

This one was hard to watch. It was soo... boring

Never thought I would say this about a Zakir show. From day one he has been spectacular, showing these amazing insight and perspectives through comedy

In this episode Zakir has devolved literally into the sexist stereotropism we wish had been left behind with 1985. Typical girls are like this, boys like that. I mean

Halfway through the episode I realised I'm totally zoned out. So I switched it off. But not gonna lie, it felt like some old uncle or aunty has come visiting and I have to listen to their rubbish for formality. Till I realised, I have a choice, and can turn off the TV.

Didn't feel like his other stuff. Big fan of your otherwise work Zakir.

Absolutely Refreshing
1 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As one watches the film, it becomes incredibly obvious that it's based on true life

A truly refreshing film, in a sea of films with the same old storyline rehashed with different detailing

The type of film that AI could never write or compete with

The actresses did a remarkable job, especially Odessa. It was a treat to watch, felt richer for having seen this film

For me personally, this is what I love about stories and films - the ability to take you somewhere else and expand your horizon, not in an escapist way, but in a gentle familiar way, that maybe softly changes how you look at bars and cakes and people on different continents.

I love that we're getting to see such a simple, sweet tale in a well-made Silver Screen visual delight. I mean the cakes alone would've been nice to watch, but then they added the bars which gave depth and humor supported by friendship and life goals. Chef's kiss.

They stopped bathing after Season 1
25 July 2023
I loved season 1. It was the perfect light, surrealist office comedy. Putting heaven and Earth into an office, that's it. Was really hoping for more adventures with the afterlife, offices, God

Instead Season 2 was a rude shock. I know a lot of people loved it, but it just didn't seem like the same show anymore. Every subsequent season the characters seem to get dumber and more violent, and for me less likeable, less watchable till the end

And this weird thing was happening, every season, it seemed like they were put in scenarios that made it more and more impossible for them to bathe, how strange. Wonder if it's to save on costume. Kept getting more barbaric too, just the vibes you know - started very Monty Python - typical medieval Europeans scared of Soap - and getting more and more scared of soap as things went along. Lol, anyway, loved the first season. Hope they bathe in the next season.

Slow start
13 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The first episode is pretty awful. Second one slightly better

But slowly the dynamics and characters settle down and humour, drama starts to emerge.

Initially the grandmothers character just comes off as a bully with loud, tired insults to her granddaughter-in-law. Its quite off-putting tbh. But then there's a turning point with a clever, not so insulting whip. When she's convincing some gents only pandit to read her grand-dil's palm and she says - consider her a gents only, her hair is shorter than your nose hair. Slowly, she seems to back off a bit also, which is a releif

The father's character slowly shines and is very endearing. And slowly the family members drama builds up through the house and starts to seem effortless. The drama builds up in the end, and I hope there's a second season. Because it feels like the writers have just started to get their groove.

Would like to see more dynamic frames and moving shots. The meal scenes in episode 8 really came together camera wise and writing wise. It felt like a real complete family, where everyone has different things on their minds, and different agendas. Conversations seemed to seamlessly jump from one dynamic to another.

Kinda Bad
8 April 2023
Wong acts like a stereotypical toxic guy in from the nineteen fifties. More suited to madmen than any show from this century Winchester does all the heavy lifting detection-wise, but is spoken to rudely, treated poorly, and then all the credit goes to Wong Strange What were the writers thinking?

Wong is someone who's apparently so grumpy and low maintenance that she may not even be bothered to bathe. But has perfectly flowing blow-dried hair and bangs at all times. Very poor character building

The mysteries are not that hard to crack. The personalities and dynamic of the lead are quite hard to watch. Rudeness just for the sake of rudeness-its not even attempting to be funny. Pass.

Fun
17 July 2022
It's upbeat and keeps you hooked. It's not the most complicated or intense story, but found myself smiling after the whole thing.

Had some really nice moments, overall wholesome and light as advertised. Love the colour palettes and background work, including costumes and makeup.

Such a dumb understanding of karma, which is fine, but the audacity to actually use it so blatantly on the tv show.. ugh.. Such a dumb understanding of karma, which is fine, but the audacity to actually use it so blatantly on the tv show.. ugh..

Brown face!
24 April 2021
Charles Shobhraj is portrayed by a clearly fair actor with heavy brownface. Casting a half Algerian actor does not magically justify brownface----not to mention Algeria isn't even in Asia! This is such a shame since Charles had quintessentially handsome south east asian features.

Love it
2 December 2020
Lovely, lovely series, clearly it's divisive so watch an episode for yourself. Best Brit sitcom since Moone Boy. Read a few reviews. This is the opposite of fleabag, Katherine doesn't hate herself and she does not need a man to feel good about herself, in fact the most enjoyable part of this show is how confident, strong and honest she is unlike the fleabag chick. Saying all those things single moms wish they could say out loud, so so funny and quick. Love the bold fem energy
