Pauline (2024)
Slow start, Plot Holes, but Interesting
I do not know why I stuck with it but I did. It is really slow to start. Enjoyed the soundtrack. The male lead and most secondary characters did not have as much development as I would have liked but slowly the show grew on me. A bit omen a bit Romeo and Juliet with some legion (movie/tv show) thrown in. Cheesy but in an almost but not quite a cult following way. But the glimpses of the universe the shows reveals was intriguing but not given enough fleshing out. It ended on a cliffhanger which I do not see them doing another season. Would have liked another episode to wrap up the story nice. Still I enjoyed it enough I did not feel like my time was wasted.
Heart of Stone (2023)
An Okay film ruined by one bad actor (Alia?)
Gal couldn't save the movie from Alia Bhatt's terrible acting. Yes it was film with alot of cliches. But some fun action and locations. What was the casting director thinking? This movie would never be an Oscar winner but with just about anyone else in the role the movie would be at least one to two stars higher rating on IMDB than Alia Bhatt. First time seeing her act in anything, saw she has done other movies which surprised me. Totally expected it to be her first movie since the acting was so bad. Hoping Gal will find another great project because there's no way there'll be a sequel. Randomly it was the soundtrack I enjoyed the most.
This Is Me... Now: A Love Story (2024)
Visually interesting but a movie no one asked for
Visually interesting but a movie no one asked for. A vanity project that while some are pretty to look at is cringey for trying to prove her love when you need to announce it to everyone that's a red flag. Did enjoy some of her new songs and she's still got her dance moves. However it felt like a lot of airing dirty laundry. Weird not all of the zodiac being in it but honestly the zodiac was what I enjoyed the most. Jane Fonda and keke Palmer were my favorite part. But she didn't need to spend 20 million of her own money when her album is solid. Watched it once definitely not going to rewatch any time soon.
Jacqueline Novak: Get on Your Knees (2024)
Funny but can't get past her fast pacing a disservice to the comedian
She's funny but.....
When you talk so fast you are gasping for air it's off-putting. There's talking fast and talking so fast people are going to miss your jokes. Taking a pause and giving the jokes a chance to land. Watching her even being funny was just unenjoyable when you aren't given a chance to enjoy it. Theirs great material under all that speed slow down so people can appreciate the joke! And make it an hour or split it into 2 shows if the rush is to get it all in in one go then break it into another show at a reasonable pace. How the director would let this happen is a disservice to Jacqueline.
The Marvels (2023)
Enjoyable but...
Loved all the cat species scenes. Kinda want a spinoff cartoon with the cats. That was fun enough to make up for making up for the singing scenes. Kamala's mom is a wonderful actress she steals every scene she's in. Is the movie perfect no but it made me laugh sometimes for how bad it was (but it did make me laugh.) Super heroines
can make mistakes and wear crocs (yes I thought that was a fun detail.) And lot of mistakes were made not necessarily for the better of the movie or actresses. It definitely needed some work on the story and editing. The crossover with the X-Men was something that I hope gets more storyline in another movie but probably won't happen. Marvel failed these super heroines and the actresses but I enjoyed it enough. Shame that the studio didn't do reshoots and let it go to the big screen as is. Hope they will try again to have a female led movie with a better script. There's stories that still need telling just.
And Just Like That... (2021)
Anthony steals all the scenes
I'm honestly only watching for the few and far between great quips by Anthony. He steals the scenes he's in. At this point just give him his own show and see him handle the how his life changed from what happened in season one. A great waste of an opportunity. None of the other characters are interesting or have enough storyline to be interesting. And more fashion, one liners, and great conversations about sex and life are sorely missing. Sigh just a wasted opportunity of a show no matter how many times I try watching a new episode I'm just disappointed. Or even some good old reliable hijinks.
Severance (2022)
Very Charlie Kaufmanesque
If being John malkovich or eternal sunshine of the spotless mind in an office environment is for you; then this is a show you'll enjoy. The pacing is a little slow but I can see that it's to give us a clear world building premise. Creepy, insular, & mind bending with a fine line of humor.
