"The K-Town Killer" is about a kickboxer named Grace. Her mother is behind on her rent and her landlord is abusive. He just comes across as someone you don't wanna mess with. I don't wanna spoil the film too much, but there is some violence.

I love this film. Grace is played by Kahyun Kim and her performance is excellent. The other performances are also excellent. The story is unpredictable and the climax is great. The violence is realistic and intense. Visually speaking, the film is often dark, but that's perfectly fine. I enjoyed the cinematography, editing, and such. I'm not sure how I feel about the ending, though. It's a bit abrupt. Anyway, "The K-Town Killer" is still very entertaining and I highly recommend it.

Weird, dark, and funny
24 March 2025
"Cannibal Cult Dinner Party" is an entertaining short film that I stumbled across online. Maybe it was the odd title that caught my attention. The film is about a young man named Brett who goes to a dinner party at a couple's house. There's a jarring opening title sequence with aggressive metal music, which was probably intentionally made to be jarring. Brett is given a drugged drink and is asked to take a bath at the house, which he does. I don't wanna spoil the film too much, but as you may guess from the title, cannibalism is involved.

You may find this film to be shocking, but I didn't, except for that title sequence. I watch a lot of weird films, so this one is simply par for the course for me. Brett is played by Stu Kimball and his performance is really good. The other actors are also really good. I enjoyed the writing, music, cinematography, and such. Brett has a dream while he's taking a bath and it looks great. The film actually isn't extremely violent, but there is definitely a bit of violence. I also laughed several times while watching the film. The main thing I didn't like is that the story is a bit predictable, but that's a small complaint. "Cannibal Cult Dinner Party" is a strange, funny, and enjoyable film. It's kinda difficult for me to recommend it, though, unless you like to watch bizarre dark comedies.

Companion (2025)
Funny, thrilling, and well-made
12 March 2025
"Companion" is about a group of people who hang out in a remote cabin. I guess the film takes place sometime in the future. I'm not exactly sure when. Anyway, it turns out at least one of these people is a robot and things get violent. I won't spoil the rest of the film.

"Companion" is definitely funny. The humour is sometimes dark, but that's fine with me. The acting, writing, cinematography, and such are really good. The characters are interesting and the film is electrifying and unpredictable. I honestly wasn't sure how it was gonna end. As for the ending itself, I think it's gratifying. Like I wrote, the film is violent, but it's not one of the most violent films I've ever seen. "Companion" is highly entertaining and I definitely recommend it.

It's somewhat boring and extremely anticlimactic, but it made me laugh
7 March 2025
"Angry Asian Murder Hornets" (or just "Murder Hornets") is definitely not a good film, but I think it's *somewhat* entertainingly bad. The acting is both decent and bad, the special effects are terrible, there are some ugly-looking shots, and there's too much footage of people walking, but I found the film to be kinda funny. It's probably both intentionally and unintentionally funny.

It begins with a gothic woman named Malvolia talking to the viewer. She introduces the film and we later find out she's a cannibal. At first, I was kinda confused why she's in the film. I guess she's a horror host. After I looked up what a horror host is, her appearance made sense to me. Anyway, we then get a narrator who gently tells us about bees. He says they do "bee s***", which made me laugh. Suddenly, a possibly different narrator (I'm not sure) tells us about murder hornets and the film gets dark. For some reason, we see a flying fuel container in the sky. I dunno why, but it also made me laugh. This film came out in 2020 when there was news about murder hornets, which you may or may not remember. The filmmakers probably wanted to capitalize on this news, so they made this crappy film.

"Angry Asian Murder Hornets" has multiple stories. One is about a guy who does a lot of walking and takes photographs. At one point, he seemed to be taking photos of nothing, which confused me. Was he taking nature photos? This film has dramatic music that sounds like it was made by John Carpenter. Admittedly, the music is really good, but why is it used when people are just walking normally? It doesn't make your film more exciting. It makes it confusing and a bit comical. It sounds like it belongs in a different film. Maybe one made by Carpenter. I mentioned that this film has too much walking. Yeah, it definitely does. The film is only about an hour long, but I think a lot of the walking could've been removed. Maybe it could work in, I dunno, an avant-garde film, but I really don't think "Angry Asian Murder Hornets" is an avant-garde film.

You see fake-looking murder hornets attacking people. It just reminds me of the birds in another kind of entertainingly bad film called "Birdemic: Shock and Terror". Those murder hornets did make me laugh. Another story is about a guy who has a large collection of films on Blu-ray (or whatever). Instead of watching a film, he decides to go swimming, but he's attacked by the hornets. The performance of this guy is pretty funny and it seems to be intentionally funny. However, that story is brief and doesn't go anywhere. In fact, the other stories don't go anywhere. This film has such a terrible ending that it makes the ending of "The Devil Inside" seem good by comparison.

"Angry Asian Murder Hornets" isn't one of the worst films I've ever seen because I laughed multiple times while watching it. So it did give me *some* entertainment. Even though the scenes of people walking are rather boring, I've seen other films that are much more boring. This film is still bad, though, and I don't think I can recommend it. If you wanna watch a film that's more entertainingly bad and has violent insects similar to murder hornets, watch "The Wicker Man" (2006).

Cayenne (2020)
Suspenseful
3 February 2025
"Cayenne" is really good. It's about a woman working by herself at a gas station at night. Nearby, there's a broken-down car. A man asks the woman for help to get that car running again. She agrees, but she's very suspicious of the man. Maybe she thinks he could be a killer or something. I'm definitely not gonna spoil the rest of the film.

The acting is believable and terrific. I cared about this woman and I don't blame her for feeling suspicious. The film makes you rather fearful. I was impressed with the cinematography, writing, and such. The ending is also good. I didn't know what the title meant until I looked it up. (Again, no spoilers.) This is an entertaining short film and I highly recommend watching it.

Sleepy Steve (2015)
I mostly enjoyed it
3 February 2025
"Sleepy Steve" reminds me of the "Wallace & Gromit" films. Steve, the main character, wakes up in his house and gets ready to (presumably) go to work. When he gets out of bed, he stands on some kinda moving platform that takes him to his bathroom and there are these robotic arms that do things like shave him and brush his teeth. It's quite quirky and, again, reminds me of "Wallace & Gromit". I won't spoil the rest of "Sleepy Steve".

The film includes both animation and live action. There isn't much dialogue, which is fine. The film mostly looks very good, but the animation of Steve is flawed. It seems to be stop motion of a real actor and it made me feel a bit nauseous. Even when he's standing still, his body is moving too much. Again, I just felt a bit sick looking at the animation of him. I didn't like it very much. Aside from that, "Sleepy Steve" is kinda funny and I liked its simple story. The opening shot of Steve's house and a bird on a tree branch looks beautiful. The music and the editing are also good. The film succeeds at being quirky. Is it original? Well, I'm not sure, but it's largely entertaining and it's only a few minutes long. You may enjoy it more than I did.

A White Horse (2019)
Somber and well-made
2 February 2025
"A White Horse" is not an uplifting film, but it doesn't have to be. It's about a young woman named Bridget, who escaped from a psychiatric hospital. She goes to a payphone and calls her mom. Naturally, her mom is worried about her. I'm not gonna spoil the rest of the film.

Bridget is played by Amber Deasy and her performance is excellent. I felt sorry for her character. I was impressed with all the acting. The writing, cinematography, and such are very good. The film looks gloomy, which is appropriate, and the story is kinda sad. The film apparently takes place in the '70s and I think it looks accurate. I really enjoyed "A White Horse" and I highly recommend it, as long as you're not in the mood for a film that makes you happy.

Sombra (2017)
Rather boring except for the ending
25 January 2025
"Sombra" is about three women sitting on a rocky beach at the bottom of a cliff. One of them goes swimming in the water and the other two sit and relax. They talk and drink wine. What they talk about isn't very interesting. It's bland and ordinary. Eventually, the woman who went swimming comes out of the water and joins them. They just listen to the radio. Well, that's boring. The film is particularly frustrating when the characters don't talk to each other. There's no good drama until the surprising ending, which I won't spoil.

Although "Sombra" is mostly dull, it's not poorly acted. The three actresses give good performances. The cinematography is also good, but the story, dialogue, and characters are largely uninteresting. I did like the ending. It honestly makes me wonder if the rest of the film was intentionally made to be boring and then you have to think about the ending, which, again, I won't spoil. I dunno. Well, I still didn't enjoy the film, but at least it's not terrible. So yeah, I can't recommend "Sombra".

A Real Pain (2024)
Funny, sad, and very entertaining
9 November 2024
I really enjoyed "A Real Pain". It's about two cousins, played by Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin, who travel to Poland and go on a tour that includes a visit to an old concentration camp. So the film obviously gets dark, but it's also funny and heartwarming. The cousins hang out and smoke weed together. Sometimes, their relationship isn't pleasant, but I can tell they love each other.

Eisenberg also wrote and directed the film and he did an amazing job. I found the film to be realistic. The story, acting, cinematography, editing, and such are great. There are lots of gorgeous shots. The concentration camp scene is poignant and respectful. During the film, I felt sad, at times. I guess I really cared about the cousins. There aren't any scenes that went on for too long. I just love this film. "A Real Pain" is definitely one of my favourite films of the year. I obviously highly recommend watching it.

Enjoyable documentary
8 November 2024
"Last Stop for Lost Property" is about items that people lose in the New York City subway system and a wise man named Sonny Drayton who's a lost and found subway worker. I think Drayton is homeless, although I'm not entirely sure. Lots of things end up in the lost and found, including a turtle, which is funny.

The film is well-edited and well-shot. It gets a bit deep when it comes to these lost items, but I didn't mind. I didn't find the film to be boring. The music is nice and I liked the ending. Drayton is an interesting guy. He's mainly the only person talking throughout the film, but there are at least a couple of subway passengers who briefly talk. "Last Stop for Lost Property" is short and entertaining. I recommend watching it.

It's OK
31 October 2024
I didn't hate "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year". The film is about Sideshow Bob talking to the audience about Halloween. He's in the Simpson family's home and they're tied up. Is Bob gonna kill them? No, but he sings a song with Disney villains like Hades from "Hercules". The song is a parody of "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" and it's actually not bad. I probably won't remember it in, say, a week, but it at least didn't sound awful.

Kelsey Grammer voices Bob once again and he did a great job. The voice acting and singing from the cast are really good. I found the film to be kinda funny. I also enjoyed the animation. The film wasn't lazily made, although maybe the jokes could've been funnier. I didn't care for the gag of Bob getting hit with a rake. It was great in the "Cape Feare" episode, which came out decades ago, but in this film, it's just predictable. I wonder if the writers themselves are bored with it because of what Bob says at the end.

I've seen some of the other Disney+ "Simpsons" films. They're generally OK, although I didn't like "May the 12th Be with You". "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" is definitely among the OK ones. It's not hilarious, but it's not incredibly unfunny either. Happy Halloween!

Coldplay: Shiver (2000 Music Video)
I love the song, but the music video is somewhat dull
18 October 2024
"Shiver" is a beautiful rock song. It's probably one of Coldplay's lesser-known singles. In the music video, the band plays the song in a white room. That's it. There's a globe that's featured on the band's "Parachutes" album cover and a mirror in the room. Chris Martin is wearing a shirt with what I think is the Rolling Stones logo on it.

The video isn't poorly shot or edited. It's just kinda boring and uncreative. I wanted to see more than just the band playing the song in an uninteresting room. The best thing about the video is the song. The video of Coldplay's song "Don't Panic" is definitely more interesting and creative. If you're into the band's music, I recommend watching that video instead of this one.

Pogo: Redrum (2018 Music Video)
Awesome
15 September 2024
Stanley Kubrick's horror film "The Shining" has been turned into a music video by Pogo and it's terrific. The song features dialogue from the film, like Wendy Torrance saying, "Calling KDK 1." The famous "Here's Johnny!" line is noticeably missing, but that's OK. I'm not quite sure what the song's genre is. Electronic, maybe? Well, the song is definitely haunting.

The footage that's used from the film fits the song either perfectly or almost perfectly. This music video is well-edited. A quibble I have is the part where Jack Torrance uses an axe to break through doors. It's a bit tough to watch because the footage of him doing this is shown repeatedly and very quickly. Again, it's just a quibble. I highly recommend watching the music video and listening to the song. I also highly recommend watching "The Shining" if you've never seen it.

Weird, funny, and entertaining

"The Horse Brothers" is about two brothers who live on a farm. There's a horse on the farm who can talk to at least one of the brothers, but I don't know if the horse is really talking to him or if he's insane. I don't wanna spoil the film, but I'm pretty sure there are references to both "The Godfather" and "The Godfather Part II".

When I first saw the film, I wasn't sure if I liked it, but I saw it again and found it more enjoyable. It's definitely bizarre and violent. The acting, editing, writing, and such are good. The film is funny, especially its strange ending. I should mention that one of the brothers is named Frodo, which is also funny. Is he named after the "LOTR" character Frodo Baggins? Anyway, I recommend "The Horse Brothers" if you're looking for something short and weird to watch.

Hash Browns (2022)
Interesting and unpredictable
10 August 2024
"Hash Browns" is about a woman and a man who know each other and seem to coincidentally meet each other at an empty diner at night. They order food, sit together, and talk. It's kinda awkward, but this film has a good twist that I didn't see coming. I won't spoil it, though.

I liked the acting, writing, editing, and such. Visually speaking, the film's rather drabby, but that's OK. It's probably intentional. I cared about these characters. Again, I don't wanna spoil the film, but it's a bit sad. So yeah, "Hash Browns" isn't riveting, but it's entertaining and pretty short. I recommend watching it.

Prepare to be confused
5 August 2024
I have some questions about "Icarus Stops for Breakfast". It's about a young man and woman driving somewhere. An owl seems to attack their vehicle, but they're not too bothered by it. They stop at a diner where several customers stare at them, for some reason. The man is starving and he orders tons of food. The two of them don't talk to each other very much. Are they married? Where are they going? Why is everyone staring at them? While they're at the diner, an owl (probably the same one from earlier) is on a boat above their vehicle. What does that owl have to do with anything? Why is there a donkey in the diner's washroom? I have more questions, but I don't wanna spoil the rest of the film.

"Icarus Stops for Breakfast" is strange and bewildering, but it's funny. I laughed several times. The acting is good, the music is great, and the editing is OK. The cinematography and the sound aren't very good, but they're not terrible. When the man sits down at the diner, you can tell there's an issue with the sound, although I don't know how to properly describe it. Maybe something brushed against a microphone? The film is at least a bit amateurishly made. Anyway, the comedy seems to be intentional and, like I wrote, I laughed. I don't know if I can say that the film is good. I guess it's OK. I would've liked to have seen the protagonists talk to each other more.

What in God's name did I watch?
18 July 2024
I've seen some weird short films, but "Gary Screams for You" is one of the weirdest. Gary, the main character, reminds me of Nicolas Cage's character in the feature film "Vampire's Kiss". Both films are funny, strange, insane, and perplexing. Gary works as a campus security guard and he's obsessed with an Internet video of a monkey or an ape. (I'm not sure which one it is.) He goes to strangers in public and behaves oddly and wildly. I think he's pretending to be a monkey and/or an ape. It'll make you go, "WTF?" Other characters in the film also behave like him. Why? I don't know. Are they all mentally ill? Again, I don't know. Well, I don't think there was an explanation for the behaviour of Nic Cage's character either.

"Gary Screams for You" is entertaining, but I don't know if everyone will enjoy it. Maybe some will find it off-putting. I was impressed with the acting, cinematography, writing, and such. The film's definitely unique and unpredictable. I was obviously confused, but I laughed. I'm not sure who I'd recommend it to, though. Maybe people who enjoyed "Vampire's Kiss".

Sitter (2024)
Well-made
4 July 2024
"Sitter" is a terrific short film. It's about a woman named Aurora, who is looking after her friend's cat. Aurora seems like she could be a character in a "Trainspotting" film or something. She goes clubbing, smokes, drinks, and does drugs. She loses the cat and desperately goes looking for it. I won't spoil the ending.

Aurora is played by Iona Champain and her performance is great. In fact, all the acting is great. I enjoyed the story, cinematography, music, and such. The look of the film reminds me of "Black Swan" (2010), which is definitely a good thing. Aurora is kinda irresponsible, but I still felt sorry for her. The film's dance/electronic music is suitable. So yeah, I highly recommend watching "Sitter".

Wavelength (I) (2022)
Rather bizarre
3 June 2024
"Wavelength" is less than a minute long and it appears to be one camera shot of a bedroom that contains a small skateboard on a shelf and a... severed leg by the windows. Does a killer live in the house? There's no dialogue, but there is noise that sounds like humming. I don't really know how to properly describe it, but it doesn't sound like a person humming. I won't spoil the ending, but there isn't much to spoil.

The film is apparently a very short remake of Michael Snow's film "Wavelength", which I haven't seen. This remake is by Mich Gelinas. It's OK. The cinematography isn't great, but it's not awful. The leg looks fake. However, it's still kinda eerie and it makes the film *somewhat* interesting. You're like, "What the hell?" Pretty much nothing happens. Since the film is, again, less than a minute and it's not annoying or poorly made, I can't say I hate it. It's just another strange short film I watched.

A strange music video for a strange song
28 April 2024
I remember I first saw this on TV a long time ago and had no idea what I was watching. Well, it's obviously a music video for the song "Rabbit in Your Headlights" by UNKLE and Thom Yorke from Radiohead. The video is about a man walking on a road in a tunnel, talking to himself. The man might be homeless and he talks unintelligibly. He gets hit by vehicles. However, each time he gets hit, he gets back up and keeps walking.

The song is really good and so is the music video. The acting, camerawork, editing, and such are superb. The ending is particularly memorable. Like I wrote, the video is definitely weird, but that's fine with me. It's a must-see if you're into UNKLE or Thom Yorke's music.

Whoa!
28 April 2024
"Eastern Avenue" is an interesting and kinda trippy documentary about Peter Mettler's trip to Switzerland, Portugal, and Berlin in the 1980s. You see many things like train tracks, skulls, and buildings. You also see people looking at the camera and people dancing, probably in a nightclub or something. As for what you hear, well, you hear music and people talking in a foreign language, although there is a bit of English. The camera is constantly moving. There aren't many shots while the camera is still.

I saw some of Mettler's films that he made after "Eastern Avenue". He's hit-and-miss with me. I enjoyed this one. If many people hypothetically saw it, I don't know if they'd enjoy it, though. Anyway, the cinematography, editing, and music are good. Like I wrote, the film is kinda trippy, but I think that's largely due to the way it was shot. I didn't mind. The scene of people dancing is probably my favourite part of the film.

"Eastern Avenue" took a little too long to end, but when it did, I was glad that I saw it. I'm not surprised that Mettler made it. If you enjoy documentaries like "Koyaanisqatsi", you *might* enjoy this one.

Flower (II) (2017)
Violent, bizarre, and funny
15 April 2024
I enjoyed "Flower". It's about a man in a conservatory who discovers a red flower that talks with what I think is a British accent. The man doesn't speak and the flower wants him to kill the conservatory's groundskeeper. The film has a twist ending, but I won't spoil it.

The acting is good and the talking flower made me laugh. The film is definitely violent, but it's not extremely violent. I liked the cinematography, editing, music, and writing. The twist ending isn't original, but it still works. "Flower" succeeds at being weird and entertaining. If you have a few minutes to spare, check it out.

Annoying and mostly unfunny
14 March 2024
"Melvin Brother of the Joker" is not good, but it's not terrible, at least in my opinion. It's about a guy named Melvin, played by Doug Walker, who is indeed the brother of the Batman villain the Joker. Melvin looks specifically like the Joker from "The Dark Knight"... well, mostly. He's not wearing white makeup. Anyway, he talks to the camera because he's making a video blog. He lives with his mother, who's off-screen throughout this film/sketch, but you hear her yelling at Melvin. Dear God, whoever voiced this mother (I don't know if it was Doug) did a terrible job. She's very annoying and not funny. I hated this performance. Maybe you're supposed to find the mother as irritating as Melvin does, but she could've at least had a better voice. Melvin talks about rayguns and, at one point, talks on a cellphone to someone. I didn't really care. Well, at least Melvin's voice isn't annoying.

There are maybe a couple of moments that are a little funny, but even right after watching "Melvin Brother of the Joker", I don't remember what they are. I mostly wasn't laughing. Still, Doug's performance of Melvin isn't bad, I guess. There's a song at the beginning and at the end. It's a bit catchy. About ten years after this film/sketch was released, "Joker", starring Joaquin Phoenix, was released. That film's title character also lives with his mother, which is kinda interesting. It might be a coincidence. The cinematography of "Melvin Brother of the Joker" is so-so. The editing is fine. Like I wrote, it just isn't funny. It's also kinda cringeworthy. I can't recommend it, unless you wanna annoy somebody.

Great twist ending
29 February 2024
"Make Me a Sandwich" is about a verbally abusive man who watches TV and constantly demands that his wife make him a sandwich and bring it to him. He's an a-hole and his wife naturally hates always having to do what he says. I don't wanna spoil the film, but I was kinda confused while watching it until its dark twist ending, which made sense.

The acting, cinematography, editing, and such are all good. It did not come across as a comedic film to me, although the fantastic ending is a bit darkly funny. It kinda reminds me of a famous horror film, but I won't say which one because, again, I want to avoid spoilers. "Make Me a Sandwich" is only a few minutes long and I recommend watching it.

Rock (2019)
It's alright
30 January 2024
"Rock" is about a guy on a skateboard who goes to a gas station store in the middle of nowhere. A woman drives to the gas station to fill up her car. The guy leaves the store and the two of them see each other. I don't wanna spoil what happens, but I wonder if these two people know each other. By the way, this film has no dialogue.

It's hard to say if I like it because the first two and a half minutes are kinda boring. The opening shot of the guy skateboarding to the store lasts pretty long and after he goes inside, the shot seems to just keep going. We see that not much is happening outside the store. Sometimes, I enjoy long camera shots, but this opening shot is so-so. You may find it boring. When the two characters see each other, that's when I became a lot more interested. I also really like the dreamy music in the end credits.

The acting and cinematography are pretty good, but I have mixed feelings about the editing. The film is short, but I think it could've been even shorter. Still, I enjoyed the film after the first two and a half minutes. I guess "Rock" is OK. Do I recommend it? I dunno, but I've seen worse short films.
