Te3n (2016)
A Remake and Biopic Era For Bollywood
Well, Te3N is a consummate example of excellent acting by Amitabh Bachchan, Vidya Balan & Nawazuddin Siddiqui. It is a remake of the famous and award winning 2013 South Korean movie- 'Montage', with few twists and turns. As the crime story unfolds, it keeps you wondering to it's possibilities. The film for not once lets you yawn(except if you're sleepy of course :P) I will suggest you to go through the trailer which intricately carves out the story line in gaps, obviously since it's a suspense thriller.
Now since you've seen this. let's talk about the Story Plot:
John Biswas, a grand-father (Amitabh Bachchan) is in deep shock even after 8 years of kidnapping of his grand-daughter, named Angela Roy. His own wife is very sick and wheel-chair bound. Despite all circumstances, he daily visits police station without fail. Coincidently he comes across a clue and simultaneously another kidnapping of same nature happens, baffling the police. Sarita Sarkar(Vidya Balan) is made to handle the case, while she is of little knowledge of Kidnapping cases, but still decided to go on with it. She thinks to demand help from Father Martin(Nawazuddin Siddiqui) who has been a former cop, and was involved in handling Angela's case. Thus, knowing the series of operations that happened in the past, he comes to support partially by providing clues. Rest all you will get to know when you go for the movie.
Let's hop to Acting now:
Though Amitabh Bachchan is a clear ruler out of all, but the co-cast do not fail promising delivery. Nawaz is always a fit-into-all. Vidya Balan is simply magnificent though her screen time is a little less.
Direction: Well, Ribhu Dasgupta has definitely had a great entry to Bollywood with a great ensemble of cast. The Direction is good and makes you feel into the story and impacts much realism.
Cinematography: Mostly we forget these aspects which make us trust in the story. The movie has appreciably captured the essence of Kolkata, the lanes, the market everything. You are familiar with the pain in the dimmed rooms, having tea or food with with perfect shots.
Dialogues: Well not many imapactful dialogues but a great attempt. I loved the one where Vidya says "Jo Khud Ka Kaam Na Kar Paaye, Wo Khua Ka Kya Karega?"
Music: Well, the music in the movie is all about pain, the background score will also relate you to that. It is soft to the ears and the heart. I would say some average pieces by Clinton Cerejo.
In all, I give the movie a 7/10. I suggest it is a one -time watch with a mind-boggling story and as already stated a good package of everything. Go ahead. :)
Sarbjit (2016)
Impeccable display of Stirring pain, empathy and devotion
It's an era for Biographies in India, followed by Neerja and Azhar, Sarbjit is a very sensitive topic for a film. Some brilliant performances by Randeep Hooda, Aishwarya Rai and Richa Chadha. Omung Kumar has beautifully directed the film with all small intricacies. A tragic real-life story. A perfect cast for for Sarabjit- Randeep Hooda has lived more than the expectations. His grief, accent and looks complete the ensemble. His performance is overall quite praise- worthy, just falling short of a little longer screen time. Aishwarya Rai tries to quite live up to the character but there are areas that could have been improved. At some places her walking styles, her lip-twisting and chest-thumping are too posh for a character like Dalbir Kaur. Some of us hark back to her purple lips at Cannes. Although her voice tone impresses you. She has been quite successful to exhibit anger, unstaggering devotion, helplessness and trauma in each and every frame. Richa- Chadha's 3 minute monologue in a closed room with Aishwarya is exemplary. The screenplay, locations and overall-efforts are outstanding, though at a time the Anti-Pakistani Sentiments are a bit too much. Long-stressed empathy is remarkable and will find a place in every person-Be it a Hindustani or Pakistani or any other human. Dialogues are well- written and impactful. Personally, the movie has more songs than it would require. Some are just unnecessary. The first 15 minutes are too fast- showing many happy, emotional and traumatic scenes at a go. This leaves the movie dipping in the post-interval period. But overall I would suggest it's a must-watch to evoke the humanity, empathy and awareness in us. I give it a 8/10.
The Dressmaker (2015)
Visually Splendid Satirical All-in-one
The Dressmaker offers many fabulous performances, some great Haute Couture and much more- Bitchiness of people of village. It is an overall memorable screen experience, not to mention the eye pleasing costumes and a hazy plot that is not difficult to the mind but truly dull. The story does lack substance but that is covered by good dialogues and greater screenplay. It is weekend lightening movie when you wish to sit back and relax. It is worth a watch but don't go deep into the vengeance feelings of Kate.Though Liam Hemsworth's body is surely remarkable when compared to a 1950s Australian village chap, I can surely recommend you a happy 2 hrs to pass the time.
Hachi: A Dog's Tale (2009)
Winsome and heart-warming story of a dog and it's owner !
The movie is a lively rendering of an incident that dated back to earlier 20th century in Japan. It's a beautiful depiction of perspective of humans and those of animals for each-other. Those who are compassionate, kind and have a soft- corner for all the innocent animals of the world and maybe specifically 'dogs' then it is a must watch for you. For others, who really don't much believe in such things, watch this movie, It'd make you do ! The soul-stirring loyalty offered by the pet will make you cry along. A deeply touching story that will make you agonize with the situation of the movie as you watch it !
