The Patriarch (2016)

a little gem
5 March 2016
Mahana is exactly what I thought it would be, a testament to New Zealand's cinematic triumphs. It boasted both great acting and a plot that was easily followed by anyone.

I loved the underlying Maori'ness of the story and the family dynamics the movie portrayed. There is always a head of the family who is string willed and stubborn. Temuera Morrisson truly came in to his own in his role as Grandfather Mahana, I was steadily reminded of his role as Jake The Muss in Once were warriors many years ago.

Simeon Mahana(Akuhata Keefe) was the picture of perfection for his role in this movie he brought such honesty to his character and a truly a breath of fresh air.

In turn Mahana was a splendid movie that drove my emotions from one end of the scale to the other I was truly engrossed in the film and every character seems to come alive through the great choices of casting.

A lack of quality.
17 October 2015
The overall feel of the movie is an odd mash of supposedly comedy and horror but the complete lack of quality acting and character building is a definite downfall. It fails miserably to be in any way funny and the "horror" moments make me want to cringe rather then express any kind of fearful emotions.

Emma Roberts plays maybe the most interesting character in this series she continues throughout the episodes to remind me of the rich mean girl she played in Wild Child. Well I do enjoy a small amount of it I also feel because the characters are both so similar in the way they are portrayed it makes her lack luster and repetitive.

The series it self just based from the pilot episode(I watched 3 episodes in total) doesn't seem to have the 'it' factor when it comes to entertainment I think with the declining ratings it will be canceled with no more then 2 seasons assuming it doesn't get canceled after the first.

One of the most uneventful movies EVER!!
29 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I was quite looking forward to this movie when i saw who the main actor was but in all seriousness WTF was this? It felt like there wasn't even a plot, it was filled with undeveloped characters that made you neither hate nor love them just to bore you to death with pointless conversations and sorry excuses for acting.

The movie is suppose to start with the bizarre death of her brother but it really just starts with him mumbling about some sort of viking thing and then ultimately committing suicide i found it neither 'Bizarre' nor entertaining.

My favorite character was Makewi(Steve Howey) he is the gay boyfriend of Johanna's brother , his portrayal of character was both comedic and believable which as far as I'm concerned is a stark contrast from the rest of the cast. My favorite quote of his being "I'll bend you over and show you how I lost my Virginity"

I wouldn't recommend this movie for anyone to watch, it's misguided and underwhelming. You're welcome to watch it but don't blame me if you're not in to it.

A action lover dream!
26 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The gist of the story is basically... Tony Stark's mistake coming back to bite him in the ass and everyone has to pay for it. Though to me Age of Ultron in its simplest form starts much like many other movie in the sense it has the back story of artificial intelligence. I had thought that the artificial intelligence wanting to wipe the human race off the face of the earth was an over done concept and had hoped this movie would change my mind. Much to my surprise I actually walked out of the theater quite impressed especially with the introduction of "The Vision'.

This movie digs much deeper in to the psyche of the Avengers characters themselves which very much speaks to the story lover in me and makes for great character development and understanding of personalities most interestingly Hulk and Tony Stark.

It is a movie filled with about as much action as I can take (perhaps too much action in my opinion). The addition of the twins was very refreshing though I may have liked it a bit more had Quicksilver(Pietro Maximoff) not died near the end of the movie. Leaving only the Scarlet Witch(Wanda Maximoff) to join the 'new' Avengers team that Captain America and Natasha create after the destruction of Ultron.

I have to give it up to Marvel when it comes down to graphics/Special effects and CGI to me they were near impeccable and some of the best I have seen in modern day film.

I look forward to the next Avengers! I do so hope that it will still be filled with the characters I've already come to love and will not be completely re-casted.

All in All it is a fabulous movie and if you're in to a lot of fighting and action I do recommend you see this movie ASAP!

Pleasantly surprised

"Teenager Ethan Wate is obsessed with his urge to finish high school and go on to college in order to leave behind the small town of Gatlin, South Carolina behind, until a mysterious girl begins to inhabit his dreams. When he meets Lena Duchannes, a newcomer who has just enrolled in his school, Ethan knows she is the girl in his dreams. Lena is rejected by the rest of her classmates for being the granddaughter of Macon Ravenwood, whom the town's superstitious residents consider to be a devil-worshiper."

I think i am part of the democratic audience this movie was aimed at and i turn I LIKED IT A lot!. I did not have a lot of expectations when it came to this movie.

I did however think the plot was great, it had your classic star crossed love thing going on with a combination of civil war, romance and a little supernatural. The acting itself was quite average ranging from bad accents to un-realistic crying scenes but i kind of believed every little line.

The hopeless romantic in me was all about this movie!

Not much to like.
30 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
After being dragged to the movies i found myself in the Theater watching Spider Man. Coming in to it I was hesitant mostly for the unnecessary reboot of the whole thing.

I found spider man for lack of better wording "a sack of bore" Jamie Foxx's character was poorly portrayed though I'm not sure whether it was his acting or scripting. He was supposed to play this invisible quite dorky guy with the worse comb over. Yet you feel no sympathy or anything for him, he's dull really.

Jamie Foxx's character wasn't even fully developed as a person before he all of a sudden became this blue thing out of nowhere. Emma Stone was probably my favorite but her and Spiderman in my eyes had zero chemistry and the part where she dies at the end... no where near as heart felt or moving as it could have been.

All in all, a really bad remake.
