Reviews
Hijack (2023)
Ignore all the reviews written early on, this is not a good TV series
As some of the more accurate reviews state, this shows start off pretty good, so you can see why some people have rated this highly early on, however; it deteriorates rapidly and becomes laughable.
The overall plot is good, but the writing leaves much to be desired. There are too many inaccuracies for today's audience.
Elba's acting career has taken a massive hit. Weakest lead role I have seen for a long time. Not his fault, just poorly written.
It feels like Apple rushed to get this show on air, which is a shame, as it is an ideal scenario for a 7-hour real time drama, but it falls short by some distance.
Another overrated mediocre TV series from Apple.
Chloe (2022)
Six hours of my life I won't get back
I hate hateful 1 and 2 star reviews, nothings really that bad? Well maybe Chloe is, but I'll give this 3 stars as most of the acting is good, but the story is awful.
After 6 hours, I'm none the wiser what this series is about. One of the other reviews got it spot on, watch episode 1, skip to 6, you'll know just as much as everyone who watched all six episodes but at least will have saved 4 hours.
Mulan (2020)
Haters are going to hate. I feel sad for you and your pathetic 1* rating.
Good movie. I enjoyed it very much. Until now, I knew nothing of Mulan. Perhaps an open mind helped me enjoy the movie more than some.
The low ratings and bad reviews made me avoid this film until now. Anyone giving this less than 5 stars must live a horrid life.
Liu Yifei is superb as Mulan. With living legends such as Jet Li and Donnie Yen, the cast is ace.
The cinematography is great. Spectacular landscapes add to the emotion of the movie. Excellent fight scenes and that fantastical kung fu style only Chinese style movies can pull off.
The storyline is simple, but there is plenty of emotion and action that makes this movie well worth watching for all ages.
Gangs of London (2020)
If it wasn't for lockdowns, I'd demand 9 hours of my life back.
Based on the reviews, I was very much looking forward to watching Gangs of London. What a huge disappointment. Even if you enjoyed this series, it's a 7 out of 10 at best. For me, below average, hence a 4.
Poor lead actor. Confusing storyline. Exaggerated beyond belief.
I assume Sean is the lead character, maybe not? Anyway, as others said, miscast role.
First few episodes are good and offer some promise. Then things get too confusing. I nearly started again. The different gangs could have been introduced a lot better.
Looks like there will be a sequel. No thanks.
National Geographic Specials: Eternal Enemies: Lions and Hyenas (1992)
Epic wildlife documentary
The best one-off wildlife documentary I have ever seen.
It watches like an epic movie, yet this is real, making the disturbing scenes even more upsetting and therefore evoking emotions you wouldn't have thought possible from a documentary.
A gripping epic tale of true enemies, the ending is some of the most dramatic filmography I've witnessed surpassing even the best Hollywood productions.
If only a digital copy was available. If National Geographic are reading this, please consider a remaster.
Derek (2012)
Best yet; ignore the negative ratings and judge for yourself!
Ricky Gervais is a comedy genius. Not everyone likes him; which is fair enough, but I am a fan. If I would say anything negative, he can come across as arrogant and up himself, but I don't know him personally so wouldn't say one way or the other. On a positive note, seeing the respect he has for other comedy genius' does make me think he a decent person. After watching Derek, I can only conclude that Ricky has a heart of gold.
I loved The Office. Extras was as good, if not better. Life's Too Short was possibly underrated. Right now, I feel Derek is the best to date.
I have never laughed and blubbered so much at a TV show. Derek makes you re-evaluate what is important in life. How the hell a TV comedy can do that is simply astonishing. For that reason alone, Derek is a must watch. On top of that, it is British comedy at its best.
I hope series two is half as good!
