Into the Deep (2020)
Compelling viewing
This is a chilling exposé of a sociopath at work. In every frame of this absorbing documentary you cannot help but question the real motives of everything Peter Madsen says and does. Of course, hindsight is a wonderful thing and you really feel empathy for the cast of characters caught up in his web of deceit.
The producers and director do a great job weaving the characters (effectively innocent bystanders) to the main plot. The director also manages to ratchet up the tension as we get nearer and nearer to the already known, but still feared, denouement.
This is a great piece of documentary work by the same producers who gave us the equally absorbing Amanda Knox story.
Children of the Enemy (2021)
Captivating documentary
From the moment this documentary film starts you will be swept up into the very fabric of the story. It weaves, twists and enthrals. You can feel every frustrated breath Patricio takes as he tries desperately to rescue his seven grandchildren - and all of this set against the grief of losing his daughter, mother to those children.
The wall of inaction Patricio has to bang his head against would leave most of us fatigued and defeated. Not this man. He has a singular vision - to be reunited with his grandchildren. He encounters bluff and shadows from the politicians and governments - he quite literally appears to be on his own. Not to spoil the ending but it is well worth watching. Humanity has a future and his name is Patricio.
Storytime with Mr. Read (2020)
Simple yet brilliant idea
This is really a very clever way to get your kids interested in story telling and story writing. Mr. Read is brilliant at delivering the stories in a comedic, yet intelligent, way. He is very good at what he does and I do recommend you get your kids writing and sending him stories. I cannot believe it is free but it is!
Shorta (2020)
Brilliant suspense thriller with amazing acting
Hard to say just how good this movie is. It is a brilliant character study on one level and deeply provocative on another. It is a buddy cop movie like I have never seen before; and the first few minutes give no indication of what is about to unfold. The story arc is simplicity, complexity and elegance all mixed together. The main characters do not say too much - they don't have to - the story catches you up in a whirlwind and does not lay you down until the final scene. I will not spoil it for you - suffice to say this is one of the best movies to come out of Denmark in a long time. The acting of the three main characters is also sublime.
Cloud Atlas (2012)
Does justice to the book
I had a strange experience with this movie. I watched the movie first. Thought it was very good. Was prompted to read the book by David Mitchell. Thought the book was better than the film. Then watched the movie again and thought it was, well, if not better
at least doing justice to the book. I think I will enter an infinite loop here, worthy of some of the characters, and continue reading the book and then watching the movie. It is quite simply a masterpiece of cinematography
truly excellent. Watch this as one of those movies that could just change your life. Ignore the issues during the first ten minutes when you will NOT understand a word of Tom Hanks' babel
but stay the course and it will be worth every second. I am ranting now, but the sentiment it real
an amazing movie!
