Between Pain and Amen (2019)
A beautiful and balanced film about history, (in)humanity - and a warning
Sadly, this is a film about a violent period in Romanian history when the elites were decimated and an entire country was taken over by a totalitarian pro-Soviet regime.
It's a story about how a peaceful, in full development country, is violently stolen by brute force, its best people are tortured and killed, where the terror is spread over night, where human rights, real laws and humanity are no more existent.
However, the movie is an artistic movie, not a documentary. It's reasonably violent, with violence more suggested than displayed which adds a lot to the balance and philosophy of the film. It's not a hard to watch movie - but it's hard to digest the outrageous history that - beware - you feel that it can repeat in any other country, anytime, in a very short amount of time; and also gives you the fear that your own self is not so far from bestiality, should the circumstances be different.
The movie is a must see and is sublime in what it transmits. I have appreciated that, after developing the dark subject, the film is able to make you leave the cinema smiling.. crying, probably, but smiling. Iasi, Ateneu, 16 nov 2019.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Just a bad movie using fancy character names. Do not bring children to this movie.
Once upon a time, Batman and Superman were movies that could be viewed by children/adolescents and enjoyed by adults. The original values of the characters and action are lost in this film, nothing resembles their meanings... superman doesn't do anything super, batman is far from any of his .. everything .. character, style, castle, tools (I wasn't able to see the bat-mobile, only very, very close-ups of parts). The story is so weak, it is merely a pathetic excuse for some fancy visual effects.
My 12 and 14 y.o children were .. scared and didn't understand a thing from the characters.. at least not what the original movies had to say. For my girl, her first imax experience was dreadful, pointless, over violent, i had to let her play on the phone and revive her 30 minutes after the movie with cold water. I still have some parts of the film that I do not understand why they were there.. but I really don't care. I wonder how Marry Poppins, ET, Bugs Bunny or other children movies would look with such a "modern" treatment. Stay at home, find something else to do. If it would be on TV, you probably would change the channel pretty soon.
