Kids Get Dead 2: The Kids Get Deader (2014)
Great fun low budget horror film!
I have to start off by saying that director, Michael Hall has come a long way since "Kids Go To The Woods - Kids Get Dead"!
A quick synopsis for the film - After years of nightmares and therapy sessions, Casey (Leah Rudick) sets out to find the author of a mysterious novel that foretold the brutal murder of her brother at the hands of a masked maniac.
Meanwhile it's all boobs, blood, and rock 'n roll for a group of teenagers at a house party... all except for Brian (Bradley Creanzo), who is buried in Charles Carver's (Steve Buja) latest novel. When the crazed killer (Alexander Kollar) returns to slaughter their sexcapades with blood- splattering similarity found within the novel, Brian and Casey must struggle to unseal their own fates before it's too late.
The film uses the same hostess vignette style (Peaches McNeill - played delightfully by Samantha Glovin) - and cuts back to the film at different intervals.
The dialogue is cheesy (which adds to the fun of the film), the deaths are gruesome (without being like the modern-day horror "torture porn") and as it promises - there's plenty of boobs, blood and rock 'n' roll!
The film's first death is a particularly memorable one! Australian actress, Bec Fordyce certainly was brave to have agreed to play this role! It certainly is an iconic death to say the least!
There are some really great visual effects in the film, too! Apparently CGI was only used in one scene. The rest is good old-fashioned "smoke and mirrors".
Some of the effects are totally B-grade, but it kind of adds to the fun.
Whilst the film isn't going to win any awards - it certainly was very stylized and done well.
Definitely worth a look if you're a fan of the old late night horror movies!
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
A film that still packs a punch
I love re-visiting "A Clockwork Orange" every few years. This is just such a timeless classic! This film is set in the "not too distant future". Our "humble narrator"Alex and his three droogs, Pete, Georgie and Dim wreak havoc on the community with ultra-violence. Rape, theft, assault are all part of their modus operandi...until one day Alex's droogs turn on him. Alex spends time in jail - and looks for ways to scheme and manipulate the wardens. He learns of a new program the government is trailing on prisoners. They break them down and then rebuild the prisoners into the "perfect citizen". Alex eventually is experimented on and is released back into society "rehabilitated". The ethical question is then raised whether or not a man ceases to be a man without the power of choice. The slang language (Nasdat) is a very cool aspect of Alex Burgess' novel. It keeps the film futuristic in a sense. The sets are a visual feast - and Malcolm McDowell is perfectly cast as Alex! He truly was such a promising young actor back then! For those who haven't seen this movie - I highly recommend taking a look at it. A perfect 10 out of 10!
Prissy Troopers (2010)
Low budget but there are redeeming qualities
I came across a travel series when I was in the Caribbean in 2010 called "Prissy Troopers". The show is pretty low budget and the camera work is pretty poor. The girls who host the show are a lot of fun. Bec Fordyce - the Australian host brings a very articulate and fun account of her experiences as a foreigner. Anna Healy - the American is feisty, funny and sassy. Nora - a Dutch model is beautiful and reserved. Danielle - the local is a former "Miss Trinidad". She brings her own knowledge of her country to the show. Stephen Broadbridge is also outstanding in this show. He is very educated and highly knowledgeable about the Eco system. I didn't realize that Trinidad was once part of Venezuela! I also learned that there is a huge Indian community living in Trinidad! My favorite episode is definitely the Indian Wedding! The girls looked very beautiful in their Saris. I think if a bigger channel had these girls the show could have been so much more!
