Welcome Home (2020)
Cheap copy of Don't Breathe
Although the movie claims that it is based on true story, there are no references to the actual incidents. I even wrote the writer, Ankita Narang, to provide the references to the real life incidents, but he/she did not respond. I did my own research and found no evidences of such incidents in Nagpur/surrounding areas. This makes me wonder whether the story happened in writer's family and the story about Ghansham is the story of the writer's father. I am not really sure, but there is a possibility. I defer it to the writer to confirm if this happened in their family.
The movie is not a horror movie, it is a slasher movie with a very loose plot where the characters take very poor decisions throughout the movie and get into trouble. This actually made me wonder whether this is really based on any true story. At several parts of the movie, it becomes very obvious that this movie is a cheap copy of Don't Breathe (which was a really great movie).
Anyways, the acting is very poor, direction / writing is very poor and full of plot holes, the characters are all one-dimensional, very poor narration that you would actually fall asleep (I dozed off several times through out the movie). Even if you get to watch this movie for free, please avoid. It is a waste of time.
Satria Dewa: Gatotkaca (2022)
Wonderful movie
This movie and the entire movie-verse has a huge market in India. Please please please translate this into several indian languages and release all the subsequent movies in India. You also need a bigger budget and collaboration with some Indian producers / directors. This can be a great blockbuster. I belong to the movie industry family, so please don't think that this is a random comment. Southern India and Southeast Asia has always been culturally connected. This movie can revive the relationship between India and Indonesia. Please do consider my thought and idea. Semoga Beruntung. Love from India.
Ram Setu (2022)
Definitely worth watching
I wouldn't say this movie is one of the best movies I've watched, but this movie is definitely an honest attempt. The script could have been more enriched and there could have been more depth to all the characters. Nonetheless, the movie is worth watching. Last 10-15 minutes of the movie are the defining moments.
Pros:
1. Good acting, script
2. No pseudo science, tried to do their best to represent scientific techniques
3. Satyaraj. Period.
4. Dialogues towards the end, particularly the last 10-15 mins
5. Sensitive topic, but handled it fairly well
Cons:
1. Not much background of the actual construction of Ram Setu
2. Slow paces - takes time to get into the main plot
3. Avoidance of political aspects of this entire issue
4. Jacqueline Fernandez. Period
5. Graphics, background score and editing could have been better.
Shamshera (2022)
Save your money, don't watch it.
Don't even watch it on any OTT, it will just waste your download limit. There is no story in this. Just scrambled scenes with poor CGI and poor acting. You will end up dozing off in the theatre or playing with your mobile.
Bhuj: The Pride of India (2021)
Good intentions gone bad
The subject of the movie itself isn't that bad. Taking up a portion of history and narrating the story is always welcomed. However, the way they told the story made it really boring. The movie jumps from one plot to another, one scene to another, one character to another, one story to another. None of this with any proper coherence. Also, the role of Nora Fatehi was completely useless, unhistoric and unnecessary. It made the movie Bore-ah-Fategi. She's a model and let her be. Please don't make her an actress.
Also, Sanjay Dutt's scenes were deplorable. He should have stopped acting after his first movie. He didn't but he continued the same expressions from his first movie. Appreciate the consistency.
Avoid the move even if you are a nationalist or anti.
Toofaan (2021)
The trailer is the movie. A failed wannabe-Rocky movie.
If you have watched the trailer, you've watched the movie. There's nothing more the movie offers. Just the same old cliched love story, same glorification of a criminal, boring music. It has nothing to do with boxing. Any person who is trained in boxing would immediately understand the fake boxing moves in this movie.
Farhan Akhtar can be rated as one of the worst actors in the world. His dialog delivery would put anyone to sleep. He has same expression throughout the movie.
Don't watch, save your time.
Sherni (2021)
This is a documentary not a movie
The movie feels like a documentary and you will fall asleep several times. Vidya Balan is.an overrated actor. She knows only two kinds of acting. One is bubbly and cheerful and another is gloomy and serious. She interchanges these two characters in every movie.
The director did a very poor job in making the movie interesting. The ending is very predictable.
This movie is supposed to be based on real story but they changed the religion of all characters. Hindus are always bad guys and all others are there to save the day.
Giving just one star for Vidya's boring acting, poor direction, showing a documentary instead of a movie and for anti-hindu propaganda.
Mookuthi Amman (2020)
Avoid this brain trauma causing movie.
I don't know who is this RJ Balaji and his religious or political affiliations but this is a clear-cut propaganda movie with heavy hinduphobia and bigotry. Not only they showed hindus and hindu religious gurus in bad light, but also made derogatory comments on hindu deities.
Keeping this aside, RJ Balaji is one of the worst actors and directors in human history. His overacting and shouting and yelling and loud dialogs and senseless plots gave me a severe headache. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this movie.
Laxmii (2020)
Bollywood can't even copy-paste
This movie, obviously as everyone knows, is a remake of a Tamil/Telugu movie Kanchana. Over 90% of Bollywood movies are remakes of South Indian movies. Instead of watching these third class remakes, it is better to watch the original movies with subtitles.
Anyways, coming back to this movie Laxmii. It lacks the very elements that made the original Tamil movie popular. This is a caricature of Kinnar community and Akshay's acting is just a mockery in every sense. Forced comedy, subtle demonization of hindus, victimization of muslims is a common theme in every bollywood movie and this movie is not an exception. First 15 minutes into the movie and I started getting a headache. Please avoid this movie.
Shakuntala Devi (2020)
Saas bahu serial in the garb of bio pic. Avoid this movie.
An apt title for this movie could be "Kyon ki maa bhi kabhi beti thi". Sequel for "Kyon ki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi". Anu Menon has a great career in making "saas bahu" serials with 10,000 episodes.
This movie is not a biopic on Shakuntala Devi. This movie is the story about her daughter and her love story, her struggle, her opinions and her life. Shakuntala Devi plays the role of a supporting actor in this movie about her daughter.
Shakuntala Devi is known for her mental calculations and math abilities. In a biopic of her, one would expect to see some background about her childhood, her schooling and education (or the lack of it), her struggle to success, her aims, ambitions, her contribution to society, how she inspired other people and the recognition she got for herself and her country. One would NOT expect to see her day-to-day family drama, her daughter's love story, her husband's sexual orientation, or about her relationships.
The movie suddenly jumps from one scene to another scene without any coherence. Shakuntala Devi is randomly introduced into the movie, she randomly starts hating her parents, grows up almost instantaneously, gets cheated by Mr. WhoEverThatWas, goes to London for WhatEverReason, new characters get introduced out of nowhere, numbers start appearing on screen in a childish font and then the rest of it is just family drama. They hardly showed 15 minutes about what Shakuntala Devi is and the rest of 1 hour 52 minutes is just family drama.
On the other hand, the movie appears to be a caricature of Shakuntala Devi. They showed her in a very bad light. Her character is portrayed as a bad woman who makes her family suffer because of her own selfish goals. Half of the time they showed her a drunkard, a bad wife who lies about her husband's sexual orientation, who hates her father, mother, husband, boy friend(s), and a bad mother.
I am glad that this movie never got released in theaters. It would have been a total waste of money to watch this movie in theaters. I regret watching it. This is why I stopped watching Bollywood movies. You, too, should.
