I'm giving this movie 5 stars because it was never for me, it was for the kids. And they enjoyed it I think.
Here's the deal, this movie is pretty forgettable. It's not as terrible as several other viewers have said, but it's not a masterpiece. They don't make good kids' movies like they used to when we were young, so it's unfair to compare these that way.
My main complaints with this movie are realistic issues. Like, how on Earth can they fit so many activities into the day after school gets out? (Going to the store which we find out later took nearly an hour, the DMV, the dry cleaners, a school play, picking up a girl to take to prom, dinner at a fancy restaurant, and a birthday party)....all before the sun goes down. Maybe doable if that school play is at like 4pm, but what school would do that knowing so many parents work? Also, how did the mom meet up with the family so flawlessly if she was borrowing someone's bike an hour ago? Did the woman get her bike back? And seriously, she was about to lose her job over the book misprint, and she just poof, decided to skip the rest of work to be with the family. Yeah, that'll go over real well in real life. And if you destroy all the parking meters and cause all that commotion during your driving test, I'm quite sure there'd be a whole police investigation, granted not entertainment, but clearly extending the day even further. Also, they have time to stop and get big brother's tux, but not time to swing by the house and get dad a suitable shirt for his interview? I'm not buying it.
Glad the kids had a chuckle or two. But overall, the movie tries to do too much in a short amount of time, which leaves half of the cast/plot very poorly developed. There's a scene where big bro gets suspended from school, but apparently is still allowed to go to prom that night. I could go on, but it's just not that serious.
