Challengers (2024)
Y tu Mama Tambien
Straight ripped scene from this foreign film was distracting to say the least and left me feeling it was two hours I would have rather spent actually playing tennis instead. Didn't buy the chemistry between the actors at all, music was interesting but strangely placed and mixed - fell asleep at the end. Looked forward to enjoying this but it was a disappointment. I am sure the actors were excited to work with this director and A24, and I don't like to think about how physically demanding this role must have been for each of them. The tennis was ok, but I'd rather watch an athlete biopic. Or Netflix Break Point.
The First Wave (2021)
Gut wrenching must-see
This was such a difficult movie to watch but I think everybody should see it. From the beginning of the pandemic I thought that live footage from the hospitals every night on the news would have shocked straight the partisan anti-maskers and brought us together instead of driving us further apart. We DID stand a chance against this common enemy - but we squandered it - and the price is still being paid with the mounting casualties and the precious mental and physical well-being of our healthcare providers.
