Apocalypse Now (1979)
a brilliant tale of a US army captain being sent to kill a legendary Green Berret colonel.
Francis Ford Coppolla is a genius,a brilliant mind that should never stop working on movies like this. This is an absolute blinder of a film.Just yesterday i was looking for some good movies to watch until i rediscovered one of the best ever made...Apocalypse Now.It is the most gut-wrenching movie that i have seen.It is a very disturbing piece of ART.
The story of a Captain who was secretly assigned to a mission to assassinate a legendary Green Berret colonel Walter E. Kurtz who has gone insane due to the horrors of the war and set himself up as God among a local tribe. This movie truly explains the horrors of war at it's worst.IF anyone out there is looking for a mind-blowing war film, see Apocalypse Now first....then move on to Saving Private Ryan,Platoon etc.
As for the acting,it was magnificent.Martin Sheen (Willard) gave an absolute gem of a performance. As for Marlon Brando(Kurtz),what can be said of him.....he is flawless.Though he played a small role,it was highly important and brilliant.
All in all....if u miss this movie,u missed something exceptional.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Andy Dufresne brings hope to the Shawshank prison
An absolutely mind-blowing film about hope being with you no matter what the situation may be.Just because the movie is about the prison life, you may be fooled into thinking that it is about the horrors and the fear and the hopelessness of the life. But it is in fact exactly the opposite of that. This is a film that tells us that no matter what the situation may be,no matter what happens, there is always hope left with you and it is something which no one can take from you.
It is a film that defines originality and perfection at that.Even though Andy Dufresne(Tim Robbins) was given life sentence,it was his belief that he is innocent that kept him from breaking down.It was hope that finally saved him.
"In prison, most people would do just about anything to keep themselves busy. Some made house of cards.some collected stamps.Andy built a library."These were the words of Red(Morgan Freeman). What he said was true.
Among all the movies I've seen,i truly believe that this is the best one out of all of them.So if any one of you have'nt seen this film,go watch it and be utterly amazed at it's perfection and storyline.
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
the story of a young vicious hoodlum whose primary interests are rape and Beethoven and his supposed cure.
Kubrick's's best film ever.absolutely mind-blowing.quite disturbing though but that's what moves us.he has amazingly blended the disturbing scenes with the lovely music of Beethoven.a riveting journey of a vicious young hoodlum in modern England who is caught due to the betrayal of his friends and his journey through aversion therapy that drives him to try and do himself in and his cure at last.i never thought i would understand and really appreciate this film but i did and i say that it is one of the best films of the century.Kubrick has excelled himself and i truly feel it is his best film ever.it also has an absolutely mind-blowing performance by young Malcolm Mcdowell as Alex, the best acting performance i have seen.
