Inside Man (2022)
Waste of talent & time!
I almost stopped watching after the first episode, because the premise was so absolutely ridiculous. But I convinced myself there had to be something redeeming in the rest of the story, something I just hadn't caught on to yet, so I continued to watch. Nope, nothing to salvage this pitiful piece of writing! Just a very very poor plot, unbelievable characters (none of which were likable or even sympathetic) making the most stupid decisions, and not a hint of anything satisfying in the outcome. A real insult to the intelligence of the audience.
Here's the sad part. Tucci and Tennant are such good actors! What a waste of talent. It makes me wonder what they were thinking when they signed on to this mess of a story. The premise was a cluster*, so why in the world did they agree to be part of it?
The only mildly entertaining thing about the show was the interaction between Tucci's character and his fellow death row buddy.
Total waste of time! Don't get sucked in and think it will get better as the story moves along. It doesn't. Thank God it was only 4 episodes.
Striking Out (2017)
NO RETURN AFTER CLIFFHANGER
What a great show! Loved the acting, story line and tempo. My hubby and I totally got into it, watched to the end, then found out there is no third season to wrap it up. Apparently Acorn TV bought it from REI (??), then shelved it.
The Fall (2013)
VERY Dark With Disappointing Ending
Like others, I thought the first 2 series were very well done, and deserving of the critical love. But wow, the third contained so many obvious errors, like the hospital scenes with no guards or restraints on him or police protection of Rose. And the cheap resolution of the whole story was so anti-climatic. What was the point of having his fellow inmate create the disturbance? He just as well could have hung himself anywhere at any time since he had so much (unbelievable) freedom. Better ending if he had escaped, and it would have been much scarier if we had seen him walking down a sunlit street somewhere following a dark haired
woman at the end. Or if the inmate who caused the disturbance killed him just as he was about to escape. The hanging was...meh.
And what about Stella? No tiny indication of a better, happier, more fullfilling life, after this awful ordeal? She just goes back to her lonely pitiful world? Very unsatisfying. The series needed a little lightness along the way, and some hope for Stella in the end.
Sweet Magnolias (2020)
Soothing Surprising & Entertaining
Just what the doctor ordered during these turbulent times, and some very good acting (keep an eye on Heather Headley). Part Gilmore Girls, witty but with slower conversation, part Hallmark but more adult, much more layered plot and some really good characters. The storyline revolves around 3 childhood women friends in their early 40s who restore their small town mansion for a new business venture. This is an easy to watch, entertaining show about their relationships, families, friends, their pasts and present. So nice to watch a touching, funny, romantic drama (without any horrifying darkness) with a quick, upbeat pace. Please keep this going! We need more shows like this.
Vera (2011)
WANTED TO LOVE THIS SHOW
My husband and I have watched a lot of Brit detective shows. We bailed after the first few episodes of Vera, just couldnt take the character over-reacting and screeching at the top of her lungs. Dont know how anyone could stomach watching, unless she stops later in the series. Really was looking forward to digging in, very surprised this didnt annoy others.
