In a few short sentences:

  • Nice cinematography
  • Weird and annoying soundtrack
  • Ok acting
  • Slow pace (slow enough to make me quit watching after 1/3 of the movie)

My wife and I are fans of Nicole Kidman and when we noticed she is in a role that is different from her normal routine we thought this may be interesting. Well she is different alright but we honestly didn't expect to watch a zombie from the beginning to the end. On top of the unlikable Nicole Kidman the plot offers nothing new or interesting. I was more generous than my wife in rating this movie. I opted for 5 stars, she said it deserves no more than 3, so I took the average and rated it as 4 and I strongly believe 4 is more than fair in this instance. Watch at your own peril.

I enjoyed every second of it

Stunning in more than one way, the documentary is a quick look (given the diversity of ethnic backgrounds of the people of Turkey) at the rich culture of a country which is unfortunately currently in a political turmoil. I sometimes find documentaries slow and boring. Not so with Lost Songs of Anatolia. The vistas and people views are stunning, the music and the stories that go with them are intriguing and interesting. Some people criticize the film maker for using electronic music mixed-in with authentic regional, folkloric songs. Although this is unusual for a documentary, it adds a certain dynamic to the whole experience. It also makes the songs more accessible and perhaps more palatable for the western ear. For me it doesn't take anything away from the originality of the songs, especially because all songs start with the singers singing alone without the accompaniment for the first few minutes (ok seconds), then the accompaniment of other instruments simply adds more depth to the music. Shortly the film achieves its goal of giving a delightful look into the complex social fabric of a country without boring the audience, and that itself is no small feat for a documentary style film that's 1.5 hrs long. I will definitely watch it again and perhaps more than once.

Stopped watching it after about 15 mins..

I have to type a minimum of ten lines for this review, which is going to be tough as there isn't really much to say, except this series is for idjits!. Urban dictionary defines idjit as: "Idiot, Person with an intellectual barrier blocking them from obtaining average intelligence"

If computer generated blood and gore, endless slow motion violence, porn grade sexual encounters, extremely vulgar dialogs etc. is your thing, go for it, otherwise don't waste your valuable time and brain cells.

If you wanna watch porn, go watch Dane Jones series on PornHub, it's got more artistic value! geeez!.

Unfortunately the lowest star level is 1 and not 0.

Enough said!.
