Circus of Infinity (2005)
A Standout Short at the Seattle International Film Festival!
"Circus of Infinity" swept me off my feet. Director Sue Corcoran's unique cinematic voice is bell clear from the first frame. A bustling pleasure for the senses, "Circus of Infinity" shuttles us between the bright lights and the raucous show of a big top circus to the golden nest of heaven, making many stops in between. What intrigued me most about "Circus of Infinity" is how its seemingly pessimistic view of the cycle of life was strangely uplifting in the end. I think much of this beautiful struggle (ex. "brash vs gentle" or "hardknock life vs loving family") is due to Corcoran's knack for shooting bizarre, freakish scenes with a keenly compassionate eye. So that we, the audience, get a strange new world but we're never fully alienated because it always resonates deeply on an emotional level.
Gory Gory Hallelujah (2003)
4 Jesus' walk into a bar...
Each time I see this movie I love it even more. Director Sue Corcoran has conjured up a fast-paced and wonderfully shot feature for fans of the midnight movie genre. My personal favorite scene: a knock down, drag out, balls-to-the-wall brawl between a motley gang of Elvis impersonators and our 4 Jesus protagonists. Or maybe its the MGM musical number at the end complete with singing and dancing zombies. It's debauchery with a message, mayhem with a moral, and of course the most glamorous apocalypse imaginable. Gory Gory Hallelujah is delightfully shocking, whip-smart and funny as hell. With stellar acting performances from the cast and a great score to accompany the action.
