The Twilight Zone (2019–2020)

Not Yo' Mama's Twilight Zone
29 December 2023
This new iteration of Twilight Zone is a dismal failure of the original 1950s'60s series.

Even the 1980s installation of Twilight Zone did a much better job of capturing the tense, atmospheric suspense of the original series.

However, this newest version falls flat, vey flat.

Maybe they thought that by adding a bunch of useless f-bombs into the already weak dialogue, that would keep this version edgy and relevant. Unfortunately, It did not.

I hate that for Jordan Peele and expected this to be so much better.

If you go into these new Twilight Zone episodes expecting to be swept back into the nostalgic sci-fi/thriller/psychological mind trip of the days of ol', you will be sorely disappointed.

Barbara Hershey did it better!

Skip this overworked, drawn-out, joke of a mini-series and watch the 1990 movie version of the same real life murder: "A Killing in a Small Town" starring Barbara Hershey. Hershey won both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Candice Morrison.

Seems like most reviewers for "Candy" are enamored with Jessica Biel's beauty, but she plays this more like a dark comedy, so it was hard to get through all five episodes because I couldn't take her seriously. Plus, Lee Garlington brought an extra creepiness to her portrayal of Betty/Peggy, so that laundry room scene with the axe was incredibly tense. I cannot believe this "Candy" version has a 7.2 rating, it was horrible.

Same ol' drivel

Sad to see stars like Morris Chestnut and Regina Hall sign on for such a rehashed and unrealistic plot. Who's writing this trash, anyways, people who have never talked to anyone in a real marriage? That whole, "I think she's got a 'thing' for you. giggle-hee-hee, It's okay, I think it's cute" said no woman EVER regarding some younger woman who her husband has already stated he finds physically attractive. Such bad decisions by the main characters when it was obvious things were going south made it easy to not care what happened to them. And that whole, "I can't have a baby...I'm not a real woman" quote by Hall's character...puh-leease! Can we stop with that reproductive-normative mess, like motherhood is the be-all-end-all for every woman? ~Sigh~ Chestnut and Hall deserved a much better script and a much better plot for their level of talent. They each have been in the business far too long to be starring in a storyline that is so overdone and repetitive. Nothing to see here folks...

Is this family supposed to be dysfunctional?
6 February 2020
This is pretty lame. The four main characters are all related and all have their personal lives and dramas spilling over into the workplace. It is as if they have no idea of social etiquette or professionalism. It's ridiculous. I do not understand the high ratings, when this show is such an unrealistic joke. You don't have time to care about the patients or the medical cases. because the show is filled up with watching the father, son, and two daughters have their public temper tantrums and shouting matches. I have no idea how this junk made it for two seasons. Pitiful.

so disappointing in the end...

Warning: Spoilers
I was really hoping to enjoy this because I was excited about seeing Adrian Lester in something. He's normally so good, but this was trash by the end of the second episode and just went to trash on fire by the third (and final) episode. This mini-series started off hopeful enough, intriguing even, but then it became so unrealistic. You're being followed, threatened, and intimidated by this man? He has stalked you and your family and even made threats against them, too? He has demonstrated that he is completely unhinged, even physically attacking you at his son's funeral and you do nothing towards warning your family of what he might look like? All this has been going on and your dingbat daughter (a high school senior, supposedly smart enough to be considering medical school), while being home alone, opens the door and grants entry to a man she has never seen before, along with his lame story for why he is there? How are we supposed to believe that she is that stupid? Then, after holding you and your family under duress with a weapon and demanding an admission of guilt from you, you give it and...wait for it...your daughter believes your confession, without question, and now "you've lost her". Your daughter in no way considers that your "confession" could have been coerced by, oh, I don't know, the man with the weapon, threatening to kill you all?! Instead, your daughter just moves out and now your family is shattered. Bleep! Whew! SMH. This was so bad.

Avoid...trust me!

This movie is nauseatingly bad. Like, the acting is so bad I don't know whether to laugh or to vomit. Not just the lead actress, either, like everyone in the movie is doing extra and straining to act. Even a veteran actor like Casper Van Dien is pitifully weak in this. So disappointing. It is so slow and the plot is extremely lame and predictable. No twists. No turns. The action sequences are laughable. There are Lifetime movies that are better than this trash. Really, you will want your wasted time back.

Not sure what the director was going for here, but...

This is a definite "meh" for me, which is sad because I normally like to see work by both Paula Patton and Devon Sawa. This, however, is horrible. The little girl is an absolute brat and cringeworthy to watch, which destroys any illusion that a parent would miss her. Most of the perils the main characters are in, are because of the little girl's misbehaving and disobedience. It just stretches the audience's care of what is going on to a point of no return. Not happening, this one. Very easy to ignore and mentally check out, here.
