Moving, thought provoking, emotional and inspiring.

Secret Superstar is one of the finest films in recent times that makes you laugh, cry and at the end you go home with a feel-good emotion and give your mother the tightest hug ever.

The film is about an emotional journey of a teenage girl Insiya Malik from a middle class family of Vadodara who attempts to hurdle her way past some monumental challenges to pursue her dream of becoming a famous singer.

As an Aamir Khan film, you always expect it to be different from others and socially relevant at the same time - 'Secret Superstar' being no exception. Promoted as a film about women empowerment, it does not only revolve around that topic but also speaks volumes about various other social issues such as domestic violence, female foeticide etc that no mainstream cinema has ever dared to put lights upon.

Drawing a completely refreshing plot line, debutante Director Advait Chandan has shown some really good directorial skills for his first film. Maintaining a watertight screenplay, the film never lets you shift your focus and keeps you on the edge rooting for Insiya. A few sequences might seem to be little dragged out and could have been edited for perfection.

When it comes to acting, all the lead actors - Zaira Wasim, Meher Vij, Raj Arjun have given their career best performances. Zaira as Insiya is charming and her acting in the singing sequences look extremely believable with her lip-syncs and guitar movements being spot on. Meher Vij as Najma plays mother to Insiya and delivers a memorable performance. Raj Arjun is the stand out performer in the film. He was totally convincing as the demon of a father and makes the audience hate him bad. Tirth Acharya as Chintan too has done a great job as Insiya's supportive friend. Aamir Khan, as music director Shakti Kumar, in his 20 minutes role of a never-seen-before character truly plays 'dal me tadka' and gives the audience some rare bursts of laughter.

Music of the film is very simple, soulful and extremely situational. They tend to grow on you each time you hear and makes a definite impact during the sequences on big screen. The only different song in the album is 'Sexy Baliye' which comes during the end credits and the quirkiness of it makes the audience standing on the aisle till the very end of it.

Overall, the film leaves a long lasting impact on your heart letting the story teller succeed in his attempt. The usage of social media shown as a medium of expressing hidden talents is very relevant in today's time. The mother-daughter bonding as shown in the film is one of the major highlights. The depiction of teenage love makes you blush and takes you back to your school memories.

Lastly, there are many such secret superstars like Insiya in our societies who get suppressed due to various social issues and don't get enough exposure. Here's one for them to keep believing in their dreams. Secret Superstar is a definite must watch for people of every age group.

Tevar (2015)
Watch 'PK' or 'UGLY' instead..
9 January 2015
There is nothing to say about this "2 Rs" Bollywood Romantic movie. This is a terribly poor remake of the south film 'okkadu' The Review is given below.

Good things about Tevar :- 1) The brother-sister chemistry 2) Manoj Bajpayi 3) Music

Bad things about Tevar :- 1) Sonakshi Sinha 2) Below average Acting by the leads 3) Awful Climax scenes 4) Boring Action sequences & Dialogues 5) Not a great Screenplay 6) Narration of the story is not good enough. Film gets lost at some point of time.

Review - 1.5/5

Strongly Recommended not to waste your time on this. Go and watch some brilliant films like 'PK' and 'UGLY' running on theatres currently!

PK (2014)

Message Received.
19 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Had a bulk of Expectations from PK while I was walking into the Cinema hall. This film created buzz ever since the 1st Poster was released. All the promos were intriguing & made me watch the film. And as usual Rajkumar Hirani & Aamir Khan didn't disappoint me. Rather i got more than what i expected. Started off with a Simple Love story between Anushka & Sushant Singh Rajput which could look a li'l dull at times. But it picked up nicely ever since Aamir Khan got into the frame. There are Laughter riots throughout the 1st half. The song 'Bhagwan..' was Picturised amazingly. The song sang by Sonu Nigam left me with moist eyes. But the main focus of the film was to put light on our way of thinking about the Godmen. 'PK' takes this message a few steps higher than what we saw in Paresh Rawal starrer 'Oh My God'. It also brightened the focus on people's point-of-view towards different Religions. The 1st half was full of pace and some memorable scenes. 2nd half started off a little slowly with a couple of stretched scenes (that had no need of). But it again picked up pace and headed towards the Climax with lots more drama, laughter and excitement. For me, it's one of the Best executed films i have seen recently. One of the Best fims of 2014 for sure (along with the likes of 'Haider' & 'Queen') if not the Best. It's also a very timely released film as the devastating terror attack took place in Pakistan a few days back. Talking about the acting, Aamir Khan has just Killed it once again. I can't recall when is the last time I came across such a brilliant performance in bollywood. His Acting, his expressions, his style - everything was just beautiful. Arguably his Best Ever Performance. Anushka Sharma, playing a TV Journalist has also done a commendable job. Sourabh Shukla looked extra- ordinary in his Bald look. he was awesome as usual. Sunshat & Boman were good in their respective small roles. PK is a Trademark Rajkumar Hirani Film written all over it with Laughter, Emotions, Drama & an important Message. I would Love if the whole Bollywood starts making films like Raju Hirani without caring about Box Office Records as Baba Ranchoddas says, "Chase Excellence, success will follow you" ;) & lastly, if you are a Bollywood lover, then you'll have a huge Surprise at the End of the Film. :)

Miss-Kick
25 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, it's a Salman Khan movie. u never expect a movie of him which needs a lot of Brain to understand. so, again it's another Brainless Action, Drama, Comedy Flick, Kick! Salman Khan impresses a lot with his comedy timing. Jacqueline Fernandez is not so good in terms of Acting. but she definitely lights up the screen with her charming look. Randeep Hooda is decent. Nawaz Siddiqui is great as always. Mithun Chakraborty's cameo is good but the role is too much abstract. Archan Pooran Singh, playing Salman's mother is not bad at all. Saurabh Shukla is flawless as always. Now, Acting is overall good. sometimes average. Direction is also very average. Story is not bad. but the execution is not upto expectation. See the movie only to see Salman Khan. Obviously a Paisa Wasool for Sallu fans! Too Much Fun!!! 5/10

Master-Piece!!! Not for Mass Cineviewers!!

"Mumbai Diaries" is one of the Finest & most Realistic movies of the last decade! Prateik Babbar was excellent. Monica Dogra was not so great, but affordable! Aamir Khan is in a different avatar this time and completely Justifies it!

A Story of 4 protagonists whose lives intersect in the City of Mumbai. Beautiful Story wonderfully executed by Kiran Rao! Some people take religion-biasness issues as the Muslim religion is highlighted a bit in the movie! But that's none of a deal in the movie. It's just to make the character look more Realistic! Nothing much to say about the Movie! Just watch it & Enjoy this Classical Journey!
