Wentworth: Seeing Red (2016)
Season 4 Finale was phenomenal
This ending of this season was PHENOMENAL. Obviously Bea was going to die this season - whether by her own hand, or the hand of someone else. She wanted to kill herself, but what an opportunity - kill herself to be with Ally (or so she thinks) AND get Joan locked up forever (because how can she get away with this one??) I think the thing everyone is missing is that I don't think the writers are writing for our ENTERTAINMENT - they are writing an honest look at how raw and painful prison can be. Her daughter died. The first person in years she's had a real, vulnerable relationship with is now dying too? Why would she want to just stay alive.. in prison??
I knew her death was coming from the first episode. A few minutes before she ended her life (when I too thought Ally died) said out loud "Bea is gonna kill herself." Minutes later my prediction came true.
I am so thrilled for season 5. Ally's alive. Joan's coming back. There is potential for Franky to make a comeback (let's not forget how much focus and time was spent on watching her take the gun, and keep it in her possession - someone made a brilliant point about the potential of it being a breach of probation).
The show is amazing. Now we are left with a group of girls who are going to have to deal with the loss of Bea - another real experience that some inmates deal with.
Yes, the show started with Bea, but it does not have to end with her end.
The Do-Over (2016)
Pleasantly Surprised
I am a fan of older Adam Sandler movies (Billy Maddison, Happy Gilmore, and old SNL with Farley). Everyone knows Sandler has done some terrible stuff in the past while, but this one wasn't the worst.
He wasn't terribly over the top or in your face like he is in roles for films like Zohan, That's my Boy, Jack & Jill. This film had genuinely laugh-out-loud moments; the cast really helps (Kathryn Hahn, Matt Walsh) - even David Spade is funny!
The movie isn't a classic. It isn't going to be one you're quoting. The film is enjoyable! If you're looking for a laugh, it's a good film to watch.
Nurse Jackie (2009)
So, so good.
This show was great. Yes, it has its weak points... but, you genuinely care for the characters in the show the whole time. Edie Falco does an amazing job at making you believe she's willing to do just about anything to pick up. She constantly lies to her closest friends, family.. her daughters, who are the only thing she seems to actually care about for real, for brief periods. Aside from perhaps her job, which I think is what pulls you back time & time again - her ability to care and fight for her patients. So funny she doesn't put that effort into her own life. So many great filming techniques to tie themes/scenes together. Smart TV.
The characters are lovable, and remind you of people in your own life. The jokes are funny, the lows are lows. It really puts into perspective (in sometimes campy ways) what life with an addict can be.
