Decent series but not great. Entertaining but corny.
23 April 2024
I was entertained and it kept my attention but the way this was filmed and the acting and soap operaish storylines felt like a corny Tyler Perry series. It's worth a watch but you'll forget about this as soon as it's over. It's worth watching while cooking and cleaning.

They added two whole other storylines that has absolutely nothing to do with the main story line. I'm sure the director will probably see it as all being connected but it definitely felt like a soap opera that had a more interesting storyline and two other ones that it cut away to so that the actors with the main story can take a break to negotiate their acting contracts - instead of a good mini series where everything works together.

8.5 stars for 1st 2 seasons 6 stars for the 3rd
9 April 2024
I always love Aziz Ansari and was exited to watch this show. This show is very much like Atlanta without the surrealness. Lots of social commentary but done in an entertaining way. Feels very independent but in a good way. I really liked the first two seasons but then season three was a totally different show. I don't just only mean the vibe I mean they actually focused on completely different cast.

The first two seasons focused on Dev who is an Indian American actor and showcases his life. It was funny and also showed what many Asian Americans have to go thru in the industry. It also focused on his relationships with friends and family and has a really good take and approach to these situations. I'm glad Asian Americans are getting the representation they deserve. You really feel like you're peeking into real peoples lives. So it's filled with humor and drama and dealing with good times and bad. You really care about the characters HOWEVER the show is really abo it Dev..... until the 3rd season. Imagine if the last season of Seinfeld was no longer a comedy but just a drama was about Newman and his new wife and then only about his new wife with no Newman And Jerry only made a couple of serious, unfunny cameos. That's how it felt.

The entire 3rd season is titled "Moments in love" parts 1,2,3,4,5 and focused solely on Dev's friend Denise and her life. And then from Denise to Denise's love interest and just HER life. As others have stated, this should have been a spin off mini series or something. Heck even if they only focused on them at LEAST still keep it as a comedy. They did not. The acting was still really good and all but it basically became a character study. Some scenes just seemed to drag on and on. Example we see this character at the laundromat waiting for laundry. That scene of her just sitting there waiting was a few minutes long. No dialogue. Just her sitting in a chair waiting for laundry. And I get it. It was to show the mundaneness of her life but it didn't have to be so dang long.

So it felt like a bait and switch. Imagine if the last season of Atlanta was whole series of anthology episodes of a totally different cast and story line. We have come so far with Dev that I would have rather focused on him the last season. And I wanted to finish watching the show i started. A nice comedy that really showed true life. Not a straight up sad, dramatic character study about a young woman we don't even know. Again... very well done, but should have been a spin off.

And just to be clear, I'm an African American woman with lesbian mothers so I can appreciate season 3 storyline of a Lesbian couple go thru IVF more than most.... BUT THAT WASN'T THE SHOW I SIGNED UP TO WATCH!! It's like watching getting ready to watch the last season of Living Single and then the last season is Roots. But are good shows but they are different. And I wasn't ready for Roots. I wanted to laugh!!

A movie that goes nowhere
7 August 2023
Starts off interesting but the movie soon gets tedious and in the end you'll have water 1.5 hours and have no answers. This movie was not thought provoking or scary or thrilling or anything. Sometimes something will happen and you think they will explore that. It nope.... Nope they don't. It just teases you with promise that there's more to be revelealed. And halfway thru I predicted the end and I was right.

This movie honestly could have been 45 minutes long. Like an unsatisfactory episode of a twilight zone knockoff type show. Not good enough to be on par with black mirror. Heck, it's not good enough to be on par with an original twilight zone episode.

Skip this.

It's meh. Not good but not horrible. Annoying but not horrible.
20 April 2023
This movie didn't know what it wanted to be. A little Jordan Peele, a little Funny Games, a little dash of Imitation of Life. It had a lot of promise but fell VERY flat. Mostly I wasn't scared or thrilled. I was just annoyed. It could have ended much better than it did. The first half held my interest then it just fell apart very quickly.

Using horror movie soundtrack and having weird font does not, a horror movie make. At least I learned a new song from the 1940s "if you're not white, you're black" by Lord Kitchener.

This lady tried her best to be white and hated being black and everything associated with it and tried to hinder her kids from wanting to know their roots and showed disdain towards them for it. That's the scariest part.

47 meters but on a tower
26 March 2023
I give it a 5 cuz It's ok to watch while you do chores. Its slightly entertaining but It's super predictable. The movie writes itself. How many more of these movie with dumb adventurous people getting stuck somewhere due to their own hubris are they gonna make. It's like they meshed all rockclimbing and stuck adventurer movies into one like some unfunny Scary Movie spoof film.

Slight spoilers but not really giving anything away: Everyone here is STUPID. The only person I cared about is Jeffrey Dean Morgan. For these people to be so "experienced" they sure make a lot of newbie mistakes. Who climbs in converse? Who climbs in an uncomfortable sexy push-up bra where your boobs can fly out. If they are that high up in the open it would be super windy. Why doesn't do their homework on the condition of the thing you're climbjng? Who still pulls a 127 hours where they didn't tell anyone where they'd be. Why is water only in one backpack? Why would someone climb when they haven't climbed in a year - someone who is All boozed out and weak? IPhone batteries don't last no that long. Who changes the lightbulb in the tower?

STUPID STUPID ESTUPIDITAS!!!!

I wanted them all to die. Sorry, not sorry.

I don't get the bad reviews. This movie was really good!!

1 star reviews?!?! I don't know what movie THEY saw, but this was a very good movie. Fast paced action packed and you actually CARED about multiple characters. This is way more character development than expected from a film like this. Movie had everything. Even comic relief but it wasn't over the top. Very multi faceted.

I was glued to my seat the whole time. This is definitely an action drama and I didn't feel like I wasted my time at all. Very well shot. Very decent plot. Also very real action. No CGI. One has to appreciate the art it took to make this film.

I think the naysayers probably already didn't want to see the movie and went in with a negative mindset. I had zero expectations.

Watch the movie. You won't be disappointed.

Way funnier than I expected!
27 July 2022
Actually more like a 7.25 When I first saw the ad for this I thought "meh this will be something to watch while I eat dinner" but it was waaaaay better than I thought. Really good camera Angles in some fight scenes and really good comedic editing. Hart is really funny. I actually laughed out loud a LOT and had to rewind scenes which isn't something I find I do with most comedies lately. Definitely worth a watch.

Solid horror movie that is definitely worth a watch.

This was really well done. I'm very harsh on horror movies. This wasn't cheesy. It was smart and different. Wasn't a bunch of stupid cheap scares. Creepy. Characters were fleshed out a decent bit and we're realistically flawed. My friends who are highly critical of horror movies also loved this. Definitely worth seeing!!! Really draws you in and is very engaging. I felt I was with him in this.

Way funnier than i thought it was going to be
23 March 2022
I saw a screening of this and thought hey it's probably gonna be another cheesy action comedy but hey free. I didn't have high expectations but I have to say this movie was HILARIOUS! Good action. Really good comedy and even though it's 2 hours long it was good pacing. Definitely worth a watch!

Decent movie. It wasn't as bad as folks say.

Different type of movie. Reminds me of the basic plot of X-men. It wasn't great or bad. Just meh. I wish that the subject was fleshed out more. Pacing seemed slow and instead of dragging out scene they could have added more interesting content. Ending was a tad corny. All in all it's worth watching while doing something else.

Check your brain and enjoy! (Otherwise you're gonna have a bad time)
13 August 2017
8/13/17 40y/o female: I've seen all of the movies and this one is one of, if not THE best one. You Honestly Don't NEED TO WATCH THE OTHERS in order to enjoy this one but you DO NEED TO DO THE FOLLOWING: watch it on a large screen, suspend your disbelief, and enjoy the ride (pun intended). It's super fun, over the top, non stop action with heart and humor. I'll be honest. Throughout the movie I kept saying "yup he's dead. Nope they are all dead" at least 12 times per scene so that's why you have to just check your brain, forget logic and enjoy the insane, Impossible yet awesome stunts they pull. (Can't wait for CinemaSins to rip it apart LOL)

They did this movie in a way where I kinda forgot about Paul Walker until he was mentioned briefly and when they did it was a sensible reason why he wasn't there and it was done nicely. So when I watched it I wasn't feeling his loss even though I love Paul Walkers character and his relationship with Dom. This MOVIE IS A REALLY COOL & FUN ACTION FLICK. Watch this movie with the same attitude one would watch The Expendables and you'll really Enjoy it.
