Werther (2010 TV Movie)
10/10
Magnificent!!

I had read about Werther while doing other research and decided that I would watch it if I ever came across it. I found this edition and it had one of my favorite tenors Jonas Kaufmann in it, so I HAD to watch it. This opera is so good with amazing music. I bet if you are an opera lover you will recognize Werther's aria "Pourquoi me réveiller?". This telecast also gives the viewers a backstage look during the production ( you see the singers being cued to go on stage and preparing for their scenes). Sometimes this can be disorienting, because you don't know if this shot is part of the actual opera. There are multiple shots, one from the cat walk stage left and right. Again Massenet's music is amazing and acting great! A must watch!

Così fan tutte (II) (2000 TV Movie)
8/10
Talented cast

The singing in this production was very good ( I mean of course it has Cecilia Bartoli in it!) The comedy came through at most parts. The funniest character was Despina by far, who had a perfect voice and physicality for the role. The singer who played Dorabella was great! This was a traditional staging in period costumes. I would have liked a little more movement and action on the stage, but thats just me. There was a cool part where a "door" came through the stage and one of the singers hopped up on the rising door. The reason I didn't give it 10/10 is because the story itself didn't speak to me in particular, but that shouldn't keep anyone from watching it. But this is a great opera to see two mezzo sopranos taking the lead roles!

Mozart 22: Le nozze di Figaro (2006)

Great cast

Warning: Spoilers
This is one of Mozart's greatest opera, I love it because it has the most hilarious situations and some drama. Anna Netrebko is a great Susanna, though she does put as much comedy into the role as others. This is a typical Saltzberg Festival production because it takes a non traditional look at the opera. I believe this was part of the M- 22, where all 22 of Mozarts operas were put on. The one interesting element of this specific production is that of the "angel" or "cherub/nymph/boy" that is omni present during the opera. From my perspective it is a representative of loves foolishness. The angel is always there "controlling" the characters. But in the end when everything works out alright and everyone is forgiven, they all can resist its power, except for Cherebino. Great opera and a must watch for Netrebko fans!
