The 100 (2014)
Earth's new future?
The CW has come out with a lot of pretty good shows since they revamped, one of them being The 100. The title of the show alone sounds interesting and intriguing and when I read the synopsis, I knew I had to give it a try. I'm a big fan of sci-fi and dystopian-like future and The 100 is a show that takes place in the distant future - both on Earth and in orbit. The 100 is about 100 chosen "criminals" sent to new Earth after a devastating nuclear fall out ruined the planet and made it inhabitable. The show centers around several main characters both on the Ark which is a floating city for the escapees of Earth and on new Earth. Now, I really like the main characters especially the antagonist Clarke, who is also the daughter of the lead doctor/scientist on the show. She is head-strong, brave, and a natural leader and although wrongly accused, like many of the other 100 thrown on new Earth, she and several of her friends try to find out if new Earth is livable. Of course there are tons of conflict, danger, and a bit of romance thrown in and the main characters on new Earth has to also find a way to get information back to the Ark. The Ark is slowly loosing all of its resources since it's floating in space so everyone is desperate to find out if new Earth is safe. I hope this show continues as I'm curious to find out of course, if the new Earth is indeed livable and if the Ark survives or if all the people on there will eventually end up on new Earth. I'm sure along the way there will be A LOT of things happening so that's where it gets interesting.
Star-Crossed (2014)
A refreshing take on Romeo and Juliet
I love the CW after they revamped the entire franchise. So when I read that a new show called Star-Crossed was going to be on, I was eager to give it a try. The plot of Star-Crossed is loosely based on Romeo and Juliet - two "star crossed" teenagers fighting to be together but opposing families and situations keep them away. Although the two main characters, Emery and Roman are from two completely different worlds, the show is more about how their opposite worlds collide rather than a family feud as in Shakespeare's version. This show has lots of drama, teen angst, and good solid romance. So far no love triangles (thank goodness!) and just clean, good old fashioned good guys versus bad guys but with an alien twist!
The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption (2012)
Not as exciting
All I can say is - no one beats the Rock! I watched the first movie and enjoyed the fast paced action. The third one was pretty slow to get to the point and not as much action in the beginning. Also, there were so many inconsistencies to that time period. First off, where are the discernible accents? Second of all, in the palace, where did they get laminated flooring? Was that even invented back in those times? Second, the new "Mathayus" just doesn't have the charm and gumption as the first one. I didn't see the second movie but I think Rock should have played in this one. This just wasn't as exciting as the first movie and it just didn't work well without the Rock and Kelly Hu.
