Someone called it a mess. That's good name, especially for the first part of the film. I nearly got lost in the plot. It was going too fast. In the latter part I managed to understand what is going on, so finally I did understand it. You know, the previous time I got lost in the movie plot was on 'L.A. Confidential'. However, few years later I called the 'L.A. Confidential' the best film ever and even today I can admit that. But that won't be the fate of the 'Where the truth lies'. It is a nice movie. I will give it 8 out of 10, but it is just a second-quality movie for me. You call it a drama - I would say yes, but call it a crime movie and I would say it isn't
I must say that I'm little dissatisfied reading these "plot summaries" where authors say "Kwinto has only revenge in his mind". That is misconception quite common. In fact the film director shows it clearly enough to learn that Kwinto has no revenge in mind. It is likely he will accept the money from Kramer if only Kramer haven't killed his best friend. This murder is the only reason why he decide to take revenge on Kramer and we can see it clearly.
The film itself is a real masterpiece. One can feel as if it was really made in the thirties not fifty years later. Also the language used in the film would be found archaic today but it is how they were talking in the 30's. The plot is dynamic and interesting without any "blackholes of boredom" which are common in many polish films.

A funny illustration of Polish reality of communism of the 1960's. The main character is a young doctor working in a hospital. One day he is given information letter that in one month he will be given an M-3 apartment. In the government system of cheap and mostly refunded apartments, M-3 is a flat for three people - like two parents and one child or as an exception - a young couple without children yet.
Our hero has now a problem - either he takes the flat in one month or he waits next two years in a long queue to be given other flat. In order to accomplish with the first possibility he has one month to find himself a woman and get married. So our hero starts to find himself his second half...
