The Plot of the Pursuit of Happiness was based on a true story of a homeliness man by the name of Christopher Gardner played by the actor Will Smith. The Theme I selected for this film is A Determined Man. Christopher and his son Christopher Jr. played by the actor Jaden Smith become homeless after an investment that he believed in fails. Christopher Gardner had big dreams for his family, unfortunately his wife got tired of waiting and working to maintain the household until those dreams became reality. Gardner lost everything from bank accounts, savings and credit cards accounts. Christopher was soon evicted from his apartment, not only did his wife leave, but she leaves their son to be cared for by Christopher. Now, Christopher and his son are forced to live in homeless shelters. Christopher is given a Stock broker opportunity but it was an internship position; which meant he wouldn't receive a pay right away. Besides, he didn't have a great education and he didn't have the extra time because he was a homeless man raising his son, unfortunately he pretty much had to take what he could in order to prove himself. Nonetheless, he was willing to adjust to doing things better; which meant working harder and smarter. The motif in this film was him getting up everyday carrying his belongings determined to succeed. In the midst of everything that was going on, the film continued to repeat the idea that he was motivated. The film shot in widescreen and the light is fairly soft. The colors are neutral and depressing. "Pursuit of Happiness", that phase was the driving force behind his determination. He figured he had to pursuit what he intended for his life and the future he desired for his son. This film reflects the unfortunate circumstances of many Americans, and it proves that you don't have to remain in poverty if you have a determination to succeed. Christopher Gardner understood this concept and he worked towards a better future. Not to mentioned, along with the theme of a determined man, fatherhood also was a key factor in this film. Being a man motivated him to want better and being a father encouraged him not to give up. He made sacrifices for his son; he made sure he took time to attend his school, making sure of his success. No matter how horrible the situation was he still took time to teach him and engage in recreation activities with him. In addition, he assured him each day of their success and their well being. I would see this as a vision; he helped his son not to see where they were, but where they were going. This movie showed the true qualities of a man, he is a provider, a protector and that would include making sacrifices for their family. There were times when Christopher Gardner stop believing, but he was motivated to survive. He kept pushing because he was strong-minded and he wanted to make life better for him and his son. In today's economy I am sure many people can relate to this film. This film could help a person or a family to recognize that having determination means believing nothing is impossible, and nothing is impossible equal success.
