Shabd (2005)

A Great Theme with good songs and Great Visuals !!!
4 February 2005
I personally thought that this movie would be something like the old crap movies about a couple and then an extra-marital relationship that exists between the wife and a new man. The idea of SHABD is the same but hats off to the writer !!!! She has so marvelously crafted out a wonderful theme for the movie. It is so ....my ...a wonderful experience (minus Zayed) who really sucks with some cheap jokes!!! Shabd is about a writer (Sanjay Dutt) who tells his wife (Ash) that she should explore an extramarital relationship with a boy (Zayed Khan) because that will be the subject for his next novel.

This is just one dimension, not the entire film. It is not blatant as that. It is about a writer who is oscillating between his thoughts and the real world. It is about the way he lives his life and what he thinks about it. It is about how the mind works and how it spills over to reality --how it governs the matters of heart. It is very complex.

Leena Yadav, the director, has chosen all aspects of life. She has spoken through the visuals as well.

On the whole watch the movie for its great script, wonderful songs and visuals that are truly awesome !!! Watch it also for Aishwarya , for she has not looked so graceful after TAAL happened to her. Don't hate me if you feel bored when Zayed enters..well he is not too long...um...I will not spoil the interest by revealing the climax !!! Watch out for a commendable work of art and literature....

I give it a 8/10.

Great Theme but not a good Finish !!!!
21 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Subhash Ghai - He has been my favorite for a long time. I was waiting for long for Kisna to release and saw it on the first day itself. However, I found that Kisna is rich is content but low in actual reproduction. The film builds up good . There is this foreign lady Catherine who is in her old age and comes to India to relive some of her childhood and youth memories !!! The movie is in a flashback.

She tells her story as Catherine having Vivek (Kisna) as a childhood friend. It dates back to the times of Independence and caters to a small place called Devprayag in Uttaranchal. Her father was an English lord and Kisna the son of one of his servants. Her father did not like her association with the boy and sent her back to England only to return in her youth.

He had also grown up now. By then it was 1947. The smell of independence gripped everyone...... A revolt!! and her house and family destroyed. She was in danger and Kisna's mother orders him to plunge and fill his 'Karma' of protecting her and safely deporting her to Delhi . In the way he has to pass through a tough phase of defending himself and her from many people including his own brother, uncle and many more. Finally he manages to safely reach her to Delhi where she asks him to marry her and leave for Britain.Though by this time he is also deeply in love with her, he must fulfill his 'Dharma' now, that is to marry his fiancé Lakshmi . He departs leaving in her heart memories of love . Their love is thus immortalized.

The songs were just superb and the music thanks to Ismail Darbar and A.R. Rehman , fabulous. Backed by great visuals and great performances notwithstanding the length of the movie which is quite long,I think it would be a descent watch. I give it a 8/10.

A true masterpiece !!!!
15 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Now finally when I have watched this movie , I must say that this is an absolute MASTERPIECE !! I celebrates and reinforces the very existence of life and what will it be without each one of us !! IT CLEARLY REITERATES THE IMPORTANCE OF EVERY INDIVIDUAL. I could not help an emotional outburst on this movie. It is clearly one of the best movies that I have ever seen.

The very fact that each one of us at every point of time feels dejected over some of the events that occur in our lives and begin to take this priceless life lightly has been struck upon with amazing skill and that is the USP of of the movie...

It surely deserves a 10/10 from every sensible and mentally sane clear headed guy on this earth !!!!

A love legend with a message !!!
13 November 2004
Now, what do I write about this absolutely fantastic movie......It is rich in story, content, presentation, visuals and music and has a social message too...........Hopefully, India and Pakistan will learn to live in a world of peace and amity.

Shahrukh is stunning especially in his new old-man look. Preity is an angel...she looks ultimate...Rani coming from nowhere steals the show in the end. Big B and Hema are great and so are the others..

I would call upon all to watch this movie even for a 100 bucks. It will shower you with grand feelings ....you would be just mesmerized with the way the 3 and half epic comes to life.

yash ji is a master-mind.....we all need to salute for the wonderful movie legend his he given us this Diwali which will be remembered for times to come.....!!!! A full 10/10 to Veer and Zaara.
