Nowhere near as good or as funny as the Puerto Rican remake!
2 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I had the chance to watch this movie after watching 'Vasos de papel', the Puerto Rican remake that was released a few weeks ago. I found it to be painfully unfunny and incredibly clichéd, not to mention that actress Natalia Lugo runs circles around C. Thomas Howell. Even though the lines of dialogue are essentially the same for both movies, the delivery is so much worse in this gringo version. Jan Hammer's score does no justice to the movie, and Kelly Preston is absolutely terrible. What a waste of time! I'm so happy that I got to see the better version first. If you can avoid watching this, do yourself a favor and run, don't walk, away. Puerto Rico rules!

Much better than the 1985 original!! A delightful delight!!

I simply could not believe that I could be watching something so wonderful coming from Puerto Rican wunderkind Eduardo 'Transfor' Ortiz. Every single scene, character, and line of dialogue is a vast improvement over the original, English-language, 1985 version of this movie. So what if he plagiarized it? Everybody in the theater laughed and cried, just like it should be. How could that be? It is a modern miracle - unbelievably funny, heartbreaking, and inspirational. 'Luisa de los Ríos' steals every single scene she's in, and Natalia Lugo and Camila Monclova were perfection. I also loved Raul Carbonell and his spot-on Fred Ward impression. P.S.: Make sure you check the 'shrine' list on the 'Related Lists' section if you find an empty 'trivia' section on this page ;) - Thank you Xerox Transfor!

The Condemned (2012)

The most wonderful film I have ever seen.
22 December 2014
I started watching this expecting a train wreck, and boy was I in for a pleasant surprise. A painful chapter in Puerto Rican history is laid out for all to see in this exciting, fast-paced, completely logical, spectacularly well-acted gem. I got to see a side of Puerto Rico that I had never seen before, and my life is so much better because of it. Daisy Granados was astounding, Dolores Pedro was unforgettable, and the late Axel Anderson was robbed of posthumous glory for his performance. I love to be challenged and confused when I am watching a movie, and if you love that too, this will most definitely be right up your alley. Splurge to your heart's content - you will not be disappointed.
