Heart of Stone (2023)
Great premise, stunning Gal Gadot
Sadly the plot turned out to be quite flat due to a non credible villain with no depth, basic side characters and a very predictable plot. But the beginning of the film, which introduced the concept of the powerful AI that directs and predicts all the decisions/steps was quite cool. I'm sure it's something that will eventually be implemented by the secret services of the world... Disappointing how the movie evolved but still worth watching for Gal Gadot. It's not Mission Impossible but still on the enjoyable side.
Netflix seems to struggle to make high quality movies despite large budgets and star cast.
Killing Eve (2018)
One of the best thrillers with the best powerhouse antihero
What an amazing series. Villanelle is sublime, and played so skilfully that it makes her the best tv show antihero in my opinion. First 2 seasons are the best, but even when the show was long some energy (especially first half of season 5) I'd watch it just for her.
I also loved that they added some mundane comedy in it - some scenes are hilariously awkward!
It would have been a 10 for me, but it slowly lost its way, culminating with a too abrupt of an ending. Can't say I was surprised by it or even upset but it should have been given more justice. Justice to Villanelle, to the cast and the initial writer. So giving it 8.
Blonde (2022)
First movie I had to drop half way
It was just hard to watch. I appreciate the art house effort and some people may like it and some people won't. BUT the worst part of this movie is that they disfigured an already tragic life of a person into something ugly, distributing, tasteless. What for? The logic of showing "how her life could have been" does not work. It's an insult to Monroe's life. They could have made something similar to "requiem for a dream", disturbing but fascinating movie using fictional characters! Don't ride on a dead's persons fame- that's the lesson. Ana de Armas was magestic though hence the extra 2 stars.
I had to stop the movie halfway through, stare at the ceiling for 10 mins and understand that life is too short to watch something that you don't like and that has no respect for a person's life.
The Sinner (2017)
Nice crime drama, too slow
The plots are interesting and the show is well produced. However This is not just a slow burn, it's extended beyond reasonable. Not sure if they had to stick to a specific number of episodes.
The last season is boring as hell.
Daredevil (2015)
What happened to season 3?
The first 2 seasons were really engaging. The third one was on the boring side due to Matt's existential crisis and I really didn't like its theatrics. It's not coherent with the other seasons.
All in all worth a watch...
Grey's Anatomy (2005)
Stopped at season 11
First 5 seasons are awesome. Then it's just a downfall but I kept watching until I couldn't. Life is too short for never-ending killing-all-main-characters soap operas!
Matilda (2017)
Really bad screenplay and inconsistent scenes
I never bother writing reviews but I really want to share my opinion about this movie. The screenplay is barely existent: each scene lasts no more than 2 minutes and in between each of them there is a huge time jump, sometimes in years. Example: there is no trail of story about them falling in love, in one scene they first meet, and in the next one they're already dating for ages; in one scene the father is sick and in the next the mourning period is already over (had no idea that he even died in between!!). In my opinion the movie was severely cut, by like at least an hour. It's impossible that someone could have written such an inconsistent screenplay.
It was quite painful to watch, and maybe this whole scandal about the movie was created to generate buzz once the Ministry of Culture realised the movie is crap (they invested 1/3 of the $20M budget).
