Severance (2006)
How to avoid nasty death and keep your friends
We gotta watch Severence he said. He being Ben. My flatmate. Watch for the writer credits, he also says. That's Bernard's friend.
Anyway: I found the movie to be enjoyable, and reasonably full of horror movie puns which we have to believe are intentional.
"I'll be right back". We honestly expected him dead.
Running upstairs etc.
And yet I digress.
When they left the bus why didn't they just climb over the tree and keep on the main road??? IDIOTS!!
Ben drooled over blondey from Dead Like Me, and I found 'Darling' a classic middle-management type. Great things can be expected from these people in the future, especially once they get their style settled.
There were more than one plot gaffes, in the sense that certain acts made no sense given the nature of those committing the act.
And how come all the bear traps were visible after the first one sprung? Surely advertising execs aren't blind?
Next time out it'll be better...
The Eliminator (1997)
Independent greatness
Without going into huge detail The Eliminator was perhaps one of the films which led to an upsurge in independent film-making in Ireland. While few of these have been in a similar vein it has shown others that big budgets and big studios are not a requirement.
For a more global comparison why not look at Sam Raimi and what he managed on small budgets with what could be considered B-Scripts.
What's brilliant about The Eliminator is that you never notice the small budget. Did you know that the car was only 'teched' up from one side and that this was the reason you only ever see the VIPER from one angle? Fascinating.
I knew the guys that were responsible for it's distribution in the south of Ireland and they were incredibly quick to sing its praises several years after it had been long forgotten about. A copy of this gem is incredibly hard to procure, so much so that Media Zoo themselves didn't have a copy left.
