Godless (2017)

Godless : Polished with drama, efficient in action.
27 December 2017
Well, I, being an avid lover of western genre, can't wait to express my overwhelming fascination to Godless, The new Netflix TV series, that eventually turns out to be the most intense and powerful series of the genre.

It starts with one hell of a massacre that took place somewhere in the west by an infamous outlaw named Frank Griffin. He is desperately trailing Roy Goode who used to be in the team until he dedecided to walk away and became most wanted. Eventually Roy Goode becomes an intruder of the village LaBelle what costs some trouble.

Upon hearing story you got right to accuse it of being cliched which has been portrayed over and over again in western. But my friend I intend to stop you here as it got something that differs it from some other ordinary western. Aesthetically filmed on the period of late 1880's, with an ambitious dialogue based script, It has served extreme promises in every possible way including superlative performance by every single actor and actress. I got to say Jeff Daniels made me stoned to every damn minute he performed. Musical score was quiet enough to sooth your vision and thrilling enough to intensify you in a second. Now if you excuse my little knowledge about cinematography, I can say I got hooked by the landscape view of the mountains, valley and the way how director Scott Frank guides cinematographer in portraying subtly every beautiful scene of it.

The most integral part of this series is describing main character out of harsh reality. I mean Mr. Frank Griffin. He seems to be dangerous, vulnerable and yet liberal too. He was portrayed as a man full of vengeance and danger, Again he got some feelings and emotions that can be admirable too. On the final scene he evoked something very close to sympathy. Thus his dubious character left me thoroughly perplexed before I reach any further conclusion to take him as a villain, beast or just a human. Maybe that's the real beauty of a western.

Like some other good western of John Ford and Sergio Leone, Godless emphasis on portraying freedom from all the way of violence a particular society or town encounter. But with that as bonus It crafts a sweet love drama too. Many of it characters revolve around a bunch of women who are strong enough when thing comes to judge the ability beyond sex. The story itself narrates love beyond caste, creed and color. So whoever loves watching western I must say not to wander around and if you don't then you can taste it for the sake of dramatic portions it got.
