Legend of the Seeker (2008)
Good fantasy series
I think this is one of those shows that you either love or hate. (Why so many people hate it though is beyond me.) If you can't suspend your disbelief, then you will hate it. The Legend of the Seeker, after all, is a fantasy show. I happened to enjoy it myself. I watched all the episodes rather quickly, and felt the actors were true to the characters. Believe me, I had my doubts about Craig Horner, but I think he brought Richard to life; especially in his unwavering love for Kahlan (who was, by the way, perfectly casted in my opinion.) I read comments that the show butchered the books, which I disagree with. Fans of the books - myself included - must understand that when you adapt a written story into a television show many aspects simply cannot be kept. The series led me to re-read the book, so I think it had to have accomplished something favorable. I read that the acting was horrible, even painful to watch at times, and never noticed it myself. Maybe because I wanted to like this series so much... I'm blinded to it? However, I noticed cringe-worthy acting in Stargate: Atlantis and I adored it. Perhaps I'm just used to acting that isn't up to par. I am a Sci-Fi fan after all, and I'm sure some people couldn't bear to watch Farscape.
Moonlight (2007)
Following in footsteps...
For those you who have been under a rock for the past five weeks, Moonlight is the best thing about Friday nights. The undeniably gorgeous Alex O'Loughlin is having no trouble holding women of all ages entranced as Mick St. John, a private investigator who also just happens to be a 90 year old vampire. Of course, our humble hero is "burdened" by his vampirism and believes himself cursed eternally- but when sassy Buzzwire reporter Beth Turner, stunningly portrayed by actress Sophia Myles, slowly becomes a part of his life again- he finds himself wondering if there could ever be more. Aided by the witticisms of his 400 year old friend Josef, played by Veronica Mars alumni Jason Dohring, Mick St. John has reluctantly earned himself an attractive human sidekick- as well as a terrible weakness. Moonlight is an instant cult classic with romance-craving women everywhere, who are reminded of executive producer Ron Koslows' other short-lived triumph Beauty and the Beast, yet it offers something to everyone willing to tune in. So go ahead, sink your teeth into it.
One Hell of a Guy (1998)
Childhood Memory
Granted- I haven't seen this movie in quite some time- but I had to drop by and defend it's honor after reading some of the others reviews written about it. I once stumbled upon this movie, a couple years back, as a young teenager and adored it! In fact I am always checking to see if it comes on again but unfortunately I haven't been able to find it since. I remember that Rob Lowe played someone in debt to the Devil and fell in love with an Angel who was working in disguise as a waitress. There were many funny scenes and Michael York made a fanstastic Devil; they always filmed scenes with him after taking the usual 'express elevator' to Hell. Anyway, I believe - if I'm not mistaken - that the Angel's duty was to in fact 'save' him in the end. It was very touching and magical in a sense. If you do not expect more, than you will love it, just don't take things too seriously.
Doom (2005)
Only person who enjoyed this movie...
I didn't see this movie in the theater because, according to everyone I had met, it was terrible. They had left me with the impression that the entire movie was filmed from a first-person perspective, so when it came out on DVD I was hesitant to rent it. I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed this movie. Granted I'm a zombie-flick girl who basically enjoys anything with guns, guys, and blood so you probably shouldn't trust my word. You have to be a fan of campy, fun movies and not be expecting anything more. Personally I fell in love with the character of "Reaper" and looked forward to what I knew was going to be an incredible show-down between the Sarge and him. I own this movie- I like this movie. I'm not too proud to admit it. :P
