Poochandi (2022)
Surprisingly very good!
I'm a Malay and a Muslim. I watch this movie with no expectations. It was trending in Netflix and Imdb reviews is good. Was rather skeptical but meh, I just watch it. Within minutes, I got hooked. In the end, I was blown away.
The best thing about this movie is the story and writings. So stop reading about the plot. Cinematography is also good. The acting by leads is good.
Few things this movie can improve. The setting/house is a bit unrealistic. Coin seller living in that kind of house? Also, it feels a bit low budget. But thats ok. Could use better supporting cast.
Overall, if you like horror movie with good story, this movie is recommended.
Mr. Harrigan's Phone (2022)
Trash. Without Stephen King name, Donald Sutherland name, John Lee Hancock name on it, nobody would watch it.
I watch this movie open minded. Expecting a good story. Not necessarily horror. But was ultimately disappointed.
The story.
A boy befriended a rich guy and later the rich guy dies. The boy received phone messages from the rich guy from the grave.
The good.
The acting by leads, was superb. Cinematography and editing were fine.
The bad.
As others has already pointed out, by the end of this movie, it was not clear what is the point of this movie. I agree not all movies need a point but this movie build ups and then abruptly ends the movie. Much like The Bourne Legacy movie.
After watching the movie, I felt like ben robbed 2 hours of my life.
Avoid. The only people who like the movie most likely are Stephen Kings fanboy.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Great story fouled by cringing LGBT elements.
The Haunting of Bly Manor tells a story of a governess taking care of a pair of orphaned children.
The story was great played by convincing actors. Not many scary scenes. Even the scary one are not as scary as Haunting Hill.
Unfortunately, the story was spoiled by excessive LGBT scenes. Its so disturbing, all the good points of this series become pointless.
Recommended to watch. But beware of the excessive, pointless, unnecessary LGBT scenes.
Ghost in the Shell (2017)
Don't expect this as a remake. Appreciate it as another GITS movie.
I expect this as a remake of my long time favorite GITS franchise. Unfortunately, the story is new. Yet some of the scene are totally reminiscence of old GITS movie.
That said, Im reviewing this a another GITS movie.
In short: Breathtaking!
I was surprised that the plot are easy to follow. It pique my interest early on and through the rest of the movie. The action is amazing. The visual is amazing. The main characters are great. At first I dislike the actor playing Batou(Not enough muscle. Too many smiles.). But in the end, I find he played the role well. I also like the villain. Not forgetting the leading actress which was quite good.
I'm not sure why all the hate. I watched this with my wife and both of us really liked it.
After I watched this, I try to re-watched the old GITS and guess what. I like this better.
