Missed Connections (2012)
an enjoyable movie
The acting is fairly well done, the story line is basic but well done and enough to keep most entertained. Its a fairly basic story about boy wants a girl that doesn't know he exists. So him and his buddies hatch a plan to for him to get her and she finds out about it when its too late. Regardless, its still quite enjoyable and is close to as realistic as i've seen in most movies of this type. It goes through the usual motions of this genre. Some may find it a bit over the top or unrealistic but being an IT guy help me relate to the central character(s). There are some serious parts and some very funny parts, the soundtrack was great, and should be a generally enjoyable movie for all except the most critical of movie goers.
Aftershock (2012)
good but not great
While this movie was not great, I thought it actually was a fairly decent attempt at a disaster movie. The acting is fairly solid, the cinematography is great, and the story line is decent w/one flaw towards the end. Not sure why the flaw was written into the story line as it almost comes out of no where and doesn't really fit, but its so close to the ending that most could probably overlook it. The movie is definitely worth viewing if your viewing options are limited. Eli Roth is not as bad as most would have you believe. The script is fairly solid, character development is adequate and there are some decent attempts at humor. All in all, it is worth the rental price.
Sinister (2012)
Fails to deliver in every way!
This movie was just plain terrible. The movie was predictable in every aspect and gave the same tired cliché misdirections. Its very easy to figure out early on what is going on and the scare tactics that are used are about as scary as an episode of Sponge Bob. I found nothing wrong with the acting, I thought that was the strongest part of the movie. The problem is that the story line is so weak that is overshadows the acting. I don't think any actor could carry this movie. I haven't looked at who directed the movie, but I'd be surprised if any of their past movies were successful, at least in this genre. This movie is much like The Ring, but MUCH MUCH WORSE. Watch it at your own risk, just realize its 2hrs of your life you won't get back.
