Alternate Universe: A Rescue Mission (2016)
Made by Teens, Not Enough Supervision
I do not want to belittle their efforts. The teens may have had some great mentors in the making of this movie, but something was off in this flick.
First of all, the "background" music was too loud and there were moments in the movie that I could barely hear the characters speaking. I am not deaf but the music was deafening.
I could see Mr. Geuttenberg's hand in the making of this movie from the stylized quips and gestures. Yet from my years of watching movies, I just felt that the screenplay was a bit lacking of something especially with the help of the experts from all around.
Maybe young teens may not understand what I mean, but when you have adults aiding in the making of this, one would think it could have been better.
Decision at Sundown (1957)
Decision at Sundown is quite the twist for a western movie
Bart Allison meets up with best friend Sam to seek the man who killed his wife. After 3 years of searching for him, Bart is somehow clued into finding the killer in the Town of Sundown.
This story line has a few twists and turns but sort of predictable after you've been binge watching western movies all day. Randolph Scott, aka Bart Allison, plays the vengeance driven cowboy husband who rides into a town named Sundown. He is bent on killing the man who killed his wife.
Although the dialogue is more than expected, there is surprisingly very little gunfire compared to most westerns around this time. The ending is surprising to say the least. In my opinion, this was made to showcase certain actors and actresses acting abilities to further their careers. There were many who I recognized from movies made in later years.
Death Note (2017)
R-Rated, and not worthy of the original work
I have watched many movies that were written for live action, and were adapted from cartoon/anime. This one left me speechless, and not in a good way. I suppose the writers, producer, and actors were not being paid all that much, and it showed.
This should have been a three to four hour movie, or a first of a movie trilogy. I know this was done by Netflix, but come on! I expected so much more! When you mess with origin, put in those particular tokens, and try to please the American public, you completely lose all concept of what the original anime series was about. I kept waiting for certain key individuals to show up.
Prepare to be disappointed, or make your own judgement. This reminded me of the chopped and sped up movie about Speed Racer.
If I ever write a novella, novel, etc., I would never allow Netflix to make a series or movie about it. In fact, I would be the one to write the screenplay to my own writing.
Forever: The Last Death of Henry Morgan (2015)
I hope the rumors aren't true.
I came home to watch my favorite Tuesday threesome: The Flash, Agents of SHIELD, and Forever. Before I even started watching Forever, my mother told me that this was the final episode. I knew it was the season finale, but I hope the the episode title is not a reflection of the show completely ending.
I was surprised to find out that Henry Morgan discovers that he is not as smart as he thinks he is, when some things are revealed to him either through actions of others or in what others say to him.
It has been a while since there was an episode that shows Henry's unique ability, and this time he did not account for all the possibilities. Although, it is also revealed that this isn't the first either.
Judd Hirsch's character, Abe, made a bold move to save Henry from ever being executed.
The suspense in this show is the best reason for it to not be canceled.
I'm sorry if everyone thought that Ioan Gruffodd should continue with the role of Reed Richards in the Fantastic Four, but Marvel saw a different direction to keep it going.
I would gladly become an actor and be in the show if that is what it would take to keep the show going.
Las aventuras de Tadeo Jones (2012)
Although predictable and somewhat a parody, this movie has a plot to hold a child's attention.
It has been a while since I saw the trailer for this movie. I finally watched this with a slight hesitation. It was okay, but I was really getting tired of quips and parodies of other animated movies within this one.
I am one of those people who likes a good turn in story line without stealing a whole lot from previous ones. Granted original stories are becoming few and far between, but this one seemed to drag as you see other tidbits emerge from movies such as Wallace and Gromit, The Pirates, Indiana Jones, etc. Believe me, I wasn't looking for this type of thing, it jumped out at me as if it were shouting, "Oh, look! I'm not all that original!"
Young Tad starts off with a dream to become an archaeologist. You don't know exactly why, he just does. The movie doesn't go all that in depth about it at all. He grows up and still daydreams for something he never really works toward, but still hopeful. His 'friend' who is an archaeologist becomes his gateway into his dream. He meets a dream girl, her father is the leading archaeologist in the world only to be topped by her future husband who has star qualities, thus also the mole/bad guy. I didn't have to read reviews to know how this movie would turn out.
Unfortunately for me, I had to keep waiting for the movie to keep loading on my computer, and all the signs in the movie were in Russian, yet the credits were in English. Oddly enough, the entire movie was made by Spanish speaking people who spoke English in the movie. Yeah, it was a bit messed up for my viewing pleasure. Anyway, I didn't get the full jest of many of the jokes because I cannot read Russian.
As much as I saw through most of this predictable yet stylish story line, about the only parts that impressed me were a few unexpected twists which I thought would happen much sooner than later or vice versa. Other movie parodies are popping into my head as I write this. The animation was not as fluid as I thought it would be, which means the frames per second were lower than normal. I could go on, but I think I've typed enough at this point. Oh, and there are some really great scenes every once and a while through out the movie.
