Madame Web (2024)
2 Hours I Can't Get Back
My girlfriend, a Marvel fanatic, dragged me to this movie. Although apprehensive, I owed her one, and we went. It was a completely nonsensical and incoherent movie. The acting was terrible, and I remember laughing at supposedly serious dialogue because it was delivered so awkwardly.
Madame Web is a NYC paramedic, and they show many scenes of her utilizing her medical skills. I counted; the characters in this film go 4/4 on cardiac resuscitation using simple chest compressions. For those who don't know, chest compressions are used when the heart has stopped, and you are essentially pumping blood for the patient until you can get the heart started again. You get the heart pumping again using an AED, assuming you have a shockable rhythm. In real life, CPR has a success rate of 10%. Without AEDs or breathing into the lungs to oxygenate, they went 100% on CPR. Incredible! What was I expecting from a movie about a clairvoyant woman and a Spiderman? I'm not sure, but the filmmakers could do some research into their main character.
Also, the product placement was out of control. The entire movie was essentially an ad for Pepsi products. The final fight scene takes place on a giant Pepsi-Cola sign. It was so in your face. It was just icing on the cake.
It's a typical Sony superhero movie. 2 hours, and nothing really happens. You're better off just getting it on streaming.
The Northman (2022)
Phenomenal and Historically Accurate Film
All those expecting non-stop violence and gore from this movie were disappointed. However, if you know Eggers' style and the types of movies he makes, you wouldn't have expected a cookie-cutter blockbuster film. This was a historically accurate film, one which included only White people. If the homogeneity of the cast bothers you, well, too bad. This is how it was in Viking times, and the team behind this film deserves all the credit in the world for standing up to the diversity quotas set by Hollywood and creating a historical drama that plays homage to the source material. Unfortunately, everyone's brains have been turned to mush by Marvel and Disney garbage, and thus, movies like this will not be made because people refuse to support directors that step outside the mainstream. We will get the movies we deserve, and it will be a long time before another movie like The Northman is made. This film is worthwhile if you enjoy historical films, revenge tales, and themes of fate and destiny.
Oppenheimer (2023)
Historical Inaccuracies
From a cinematic standpoint, Nolan's directorial skills are unmatched.
My issue with the film comes from its highly sympathetic view of Oppenheimer. Nolan makes Oppenheimer into a martyr, which was the same thing that happened in the book this movie is based on. However, the man had heavy communist sympathies. They touch on his belief that the Americans should have been collaborating with the Soviets; however, that's as far as it goes in the movie. There is compelling evidence to suggest that he (or one of his proxies) was leaking secrets to the Soviets. When Truman arrived at Potsdam and told Stalin about the bomb, Stalin already knew about it, meaning this info would likely have come from high up in the chain of command. This movie displayed a sympathetic view of Oppenheimer when in fact he likely was giving info to the USSR.
It is a shame now because we are currently seeing the fruits of the communist infiltration of the 50s and 60s manifesting in the country today. The subversion of America has taken multiple generations, and although Oppenheimer may have been unjustly harassed (I believe justly), the Americans of the 50s were right to be petrified by communist infiltration. If only we would heed their warnings now.
The Walking Dead: No Sanctuary (2014)
The End of an Era
This episode in particular was the end of the best of the show. Everything after this has been horrible. The only reason people kept watching the 2nd half of season 4 was to see what happened at Terminus. 8 episodes of buildup for 1 episode of carnage and it's over. Then another 8 episodes of aimlessly walking until they stumble into Alexandria. So much wasted potential with this episode, and it honestly ruined the show. The mindless action of this episode was nothing in comparison to the visceral feeling of Rick biting Joe's throat out in the previous episode. That feeling of dread as Carl and Michonne are about to be raped. Daryl being nearly beaten to death. That was how you build up to something. Terminus was a flop, and was the end of TWD.
