Elfen Lied (2004)
7/10
A perfect example of a bitter sweet.

I would rate this anime 7.5/10. if you're trying to decide if you should watch this anime or not i would most likely say go for it. there are many pros and cons in my opinion and i would say they lots of times cancel each other out.

the story line is fantastic! if you were to relay the story onto someone else in full detail they would be impressed, that said however, a lot of the other qualities of the show don't match up in quality leaving you feeling that they could've done a lot better. as for the PROS, the music is extremely well done and fits the mood and the storyline perfectly. its a sad tale, but most of the best tales are. some of the voice acting was incredible (although some of it was really terrible). so it varied a lot. but when it was good it could bring you to tears.

as for the CONS however...first of all the the artwork doesn't match the quality or the mood of the story at all. the characters all have a cheap glossy look to them similar to very less artfully done anime, which bugged me. the main character is especially bland and common, although it isn't as bad after his character develops a bit. just looking at the artwork it looks like just another fan service harem. on the note of harem, there is nudity, and alo't of it. its not completely distasteful, however. they don't throw it around or put the girls in embarrassing positions. it seems like they more use the purity and innocence of the girl's bodies to complement the impure world around them.

if you can get past the things they did wrong, the things they did right they did REALLY right. which is the only reason why the less finished parts of the anime stuck out and bugged me so much.

all in all i would say im definitely glad i watched it, however, due to a lot of the less finished aspects of it i wouldn't be putting in my top 10.

Baccano! (2007–2008)
10/10
A unique and fantastic adventure!

there are many areas in which this anime deserves a 10/10. it has many, many characters that, although initially seem to overload you with information, will each form a connection with you by the time the 16 episodes are up. this anime spares nothing when it comes to showing bloody fights and the like. however, it is used tastefully and is not to be confused with shows that have nothing but unchoreographed fight scenes, using chopped limbs and blood only to satisfy those who get off on that type of thing. "baccano!" takes a while to grow but if you stick it out till the end you will be very glad you did, for anyone who watches the entire series will be left with a longing for more anime like this one. i give this anime a 10/10 not because i have some connection with it or die hard obsession with it. i give it that because that is the rating anyone who watches it should give it, simply because it is closer to a 10 than it is to a 9.

"Baccano!" is close to being a one of a kind masterpiece. the only reason it does not achieve that title is do to "Durarara!", another great anime by the same production company, Brain Base, which i highly recommend seeing. "baccano!" consists of 13 episodes with 3 extra episodes that were released with the DVD.
