The Lost Symbol (2021)
Just badly put together
The editing and scene cutting is poorly done. No sequence and scenes badly cut. Not aure if they did this to try for old ad driven tv, but on paramount play out the scenes integrate very badly.
But Eddy Izzard is well cast. Great to see him try something serious. He pulls it off!
Trackers (2019)
Great interpretation and SA fkavour
Great interpretation of the Deon Meyer genre, and authentic non-US based action drans (ie not trying to be one of the nany many many US clone spy-series).
Great scenery in new locations for tv shows, and good character development.
My only criticism is a suggestion to up the pace slightly, to keep attention.
Look forward to more Deon Meyer work.
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018)
Story telling at its best
The most scrumptious storytelling. No fancy special effects, just the story in the right context. Perfect illustration of the sequence of storytelling, if ever anyone wondered about the technical sequencing of storytelling. This makes it fabulous, capturing the essence in six short sagas, witn interconnectedness in my mind. All set in yonder wild west. Delicious and worthwhile to watch.
Final Space (2018)
Brilliant
A bit whacky to get into at first, but the characters all develop brilliantly. I loved that all had unique personalities, even the droids and non-humans. Fantastic ending, well worth a watch. Episode length is ideal as an in betweener of other shows. Voices and animation is great too. Great show, hope to see more!
Nommer 37 (2018)
Very fresh and real
Saw this at Sydney Film Festival 2018, hosted by Nosipho. Fantastic interpretation of original concept. The subtitles proved useful for conveying the original lamguage wit. Dialogue and scenes well integrated into modern South Africa, but with a global appeal.
I though Randall did a fantastic acting job, and the other sub characters had meaning.
I may be biased by previously living in the Cape, but even my global friends understood the messages and screen play.
My only critique was that the police woman's capitulation to corruption could have been further played out, but this is minor and does not distract from the main plot.
