Code 8: Part II (2024)
I expect better if Netflix puts their name on something..... the Independent original was far better
The original Kate movie was crowd, funded, and honestly had a better story action, and believable acting. While a few of the original cast numbers returned in the sequel, putting in decent performances I found that one of the new additions, Sirena Gulamgaus, acting choices didn't read as realistic, nor did they add any positivity to the story. The character was not one that I found any empathy with, and while it is a good continuation of the general narrative. The overall writing was below that of the original. The end scene of the sequel does leave it open for a potential third instance of this title, and while Netflix is added, some great special effects, I would strongly advocate for the original gritty and realistic aspects of the 1st to be followed if there is a third instance of this series.
From This Day Forward (2019)
Rare gem, stellar acting and brilliant filmmaking.
15 min film that resonates on so many levels. Like chefs applying for a position in a Michelin star restaurant cooking a simple egg perfectly often part of their audition. This film is the equivalent of a perfectly executed complete and tasty meal. Deals with what so many of us will be faced with in a human way down the essentials that matter. With zero dialogue, one might think this was an impossibility however, it is not. The calibre of acting every nuance of movement looks from the eyes expressions in their faces all take you on a journey that transcends language. The filmmaking pivot view in meaningful way, keeping what is necessary for the story to move forward for the emotional impact to land in beautiful symmetry.
I can express one criticism, is that Wen, wanting to share this film with others it is impossible to access it. No streaming service and purchase options have been found for this gem. While it remains a sparkling moment in my mind., I am deeply saddened that others are not given the same opportunity. While I feel I can communicate well I lack the skill with the filmmaker and actors were able to deliver just 15 minutes.
