Do As I Say (2009)
Better than Mediocre
This documentary takes a shot at the liberals who say one thing and do the opposite. They use Michael Moore, Noam Chomsky, The Kennedys, Al Gore, Hilary Clinton and George Soros as liberals who claim to hate capitalism, but in reality have their own capitalistic exploits they keep on the down low.
Many aspects of this are informative. However, their approach is childish when they use some guy named Kip who poses as rich person and shares with us his insights of how to make it rich while being a liberal. It has him dressed like a banker and begging for support on the streets of NY. The irony is embarrassing, and it doesn't stop there. They try and confront Michael Moore about his investments that he claims he never had, and it goes so far as to send him a cake with his tax return on it. Although this is a Michael Moore tactic, it really looks pathetic and undermines any credibility this film might have had. They then try and confront Sen Kennedy who is caught off guard and embarrassed. Why not be more civil and invite them to a panel discussion or ask them to explain what the controversies were all about and ask for a press release. I know these are not the best answers, but neither is trying to humiliate a person in front of a camera.
In regards to George Soros, he does not hide what he did in currency speculation. It is something anyone could have done, and he should not be faulted because he has liberal views.
It did have a good soundtrack and was better quality film than many documentaries. It is too bad that the potential was squandered with unprofessional journalism.
Hating Breitbart (2012)
Why do they hate him so?
Extremely informative. I was fortunate enough to be at the premiere in DC. It was a great event and I got to speak to many people in the film afterwards at the reception. This made it all the more memorable since I was able to ask about their associations with Breitbart.
This film touches on some powerful issues with new media and how Breitbart managed to destroy ACORN, union leaders and Congressman Weiner. He also manages to show the liberal media bias, and it shows how they misrepresent his every word. Keith Oberman's loathing for him surprised me.
There were moments in the film where Breitbart seemed extreme and this compromised his image, but by sticking to straightforward truths and his accomplishments his credibility was preserved. The film shows us that he will leave a legacy, that many will aspire to fill in new media. It's a shame we lost him when we did because someone always needs to stir the pot, and he was quite good at it.
Prometheus (2012)
A good addition to the Alien series.
A bridge from the present to the future Alien films. Great acting from all. It sticks with the corporation premise of the other films, and includes TED as a platform for spreading ideas of the future. The Engineer idea was fascinating, the whole reminded me of Starcraft with the Protoss, the Zerg and the Humans. Many actions seemed unexplained, despite this I still enjoyed it and hope there will be a sequel. The whole alien pregnancy thing and surgery was gritty but entertaining. Of course the technology was overwhelming, yet possible. I enjoyed watching them eat from their machines, it seemed complete, nutritious and efficient. The future is indeed full of possibility. The music was also great as well as the location and filming.
