Every now and then, Netflix comes out of nowhere and releases a gem of a show that probably only a fraction will even notice.
The Queen's Gambit is such a show. I stumbled upon this show a few days ago by chance, and had absolutely zero expectations about the show. Now, a couple of days later I finished it and I'm left absolutely amazed by this show. The first episode wasn't the strongest, but it was interesting enough to keep me going and it just kept getting better with each episode.
The performances are very genuine and real, the writing is strong, the characters are unique and interesting in their own way and the overall production value is impressive. I highly recommend giving this show a watch. Even if you're not interested in chess (I sure wasn't!) it's unexpectedly good either way, because it's about so much more than chess.
Well done Netflix!
