Jagga Jasoos (2017)

Good attempt, but a disappointment in the end.

Jagga Jasoos reminded me of my academic year in high school..it started off with a bang, but gradually turned out to be massive letdown. The effort at putting together a smart and funny action adventure could be spotted throughout the stylized comic-bookish tone of the film, which is a really unique attempt by Anurag Basu. But the tone is all over the place. The idea of putting together an action-musical is executed well, but at parts, the songs feel forced and the singing unnecessary. It eventually turns from smart and funny to stupid and silly, and by the time its over..you are left with nothing but expectations for a better sequel, which is made evident by a guest appearance at the very end. Its a very fast-paced movie, with creative visual choices and without any boring elements. But the action lacks originality and feels choppy. The visual effects are not so bad. Overall, its a good attempt but a big disappointment.

Our protagonist comes from a nameless homo-erotic planet where everybody roams naked. They have a completely similar anatomy as to that of a human body, but their mannerisms are somehow different. But lets put that out of our minds and move on with the story. We follow PK on his quest to recover his stolen intergalactic transmitter which leads up to addressing the issues of religious superstition and fanaticism. The concept is very similar to Oh My God, but the execution is a blast! The pacing is quite fast, and the gags keep on coming continuously until they are interrupted by a song every once in a while. The movie avoids any sort of melodrama, but the plot takes a little comfort in coincidences. There are tons of surprises, and laugh out loud (fart-jerking) moments. The performances are outstanding... Aamir is extraordinary and Anushka shows a lot of energy. Sushant is charming and Saurabh Shukla is amazing. Also, Boman and Sanjay are pretty good in this movie. This movie has flaws, but one must ignore them because if someone keeps dwelling on plot holes, they will surely be missing out on entertainment at a grand scale The climax of this movie is twisted and seems a little forced, but i didn't give a damn because i was having a great time! Go see this movie.. might not be as memorable as 3 idiots, but definitely deserves a second watch!

There are moments in this film where you'll be like.. " Oh he's going to do that... oh no don't do that..." and then, " holy crap.. he really did that! "
