I Am Rage (2023)
Not the best, but slightly interesting
If you have a chance to read @aartadventure's review, do it. That one sums up nearly everything I wanted to say.
Going it over in my head at the end, I guess it had a decent plot idea that reminded me of 'Get Out' or 'The Invitation.' With better acting, more believable fight scenes, and maybe just a little more muscle on our lean leading lady, they might have pulled it off. Unfortunately, lack of those features made it less entertaining (although I did make it to the end).
Erin (leading lady) doesn't save even one of the other victims. I felt like our hero should have saved at least one person besides herself.
Home Invaders (2018)
Unbelievable from the start, but slightly entertaining...
I could definitely see this one being on Hallmark or Lifetime. There are so many unbelievable/unrealistic incidents throughout the movie.
A fight in the BnB ensues and an entitled guest starts breaking things and even throws a potted plant out a window. As far as we know, no charges are filed and no fines to the tenants.
Our villain is arguing with a man and pushes him in front of a panel truck, perfect timing to get him killed. Of course, the driver doesn't stop.
About halfway in, a mother lets a guest pick up her child from school. There are a couple things wrong with that. First, you do NOT involve guests in your personal life. Second, a mother does not allow a stranger to pick up her kid.
Next, our crazy antagonist manages to film the leading lady typing her password into her laptop and proceeds to access it and finds a last will and testament.
If you can believe all the people are so naive and oblivious to clues or even have any common sense, you might enjoy the love story aspect. As for the drama, it was lame at best.
Eden Lake (2008)
What I want most is a sequel!
As others have written, this movie is painful to watch. Our leading lady loses her boyfriend, then fights for her life, only to end up in the hands of those who would protect the evil and take her life instead. Everything she goes through does not bring us to the conclusion we seek where good ultimately overcomes evil.
That being said, I found it exciting (and Kelly Reilly plays her role very convincingly). The film plays peer pressure and gang mentality to the extreme, even to the point of a complete disregard for human life. I kept watching with the hope that, in the end, Jenny (Kelly Reilly) would end Brett's life and get out of that town.
What I want now is a sequel where payback of some kind is dealt, particularly to Brett and his family.
The Girl in Cabin 13: A Psychological Horror (2021)
Typical "the world is about me" story with poor acting
First, you have a pretty girl completely wrapped up in herself (standard insta) with absolutely no ability to express real emotion. Then you have her boyfriend who, while tolerant, is pathetic and just as emotionless. Like another reviewer said, the best acting was done by the antagonists who never even spoke. The storyline is weak, predictable, and only offers a couple good jump-scares. Unfortunately, those aren't enough to rescue this movie to a point of making it worthwhile watching. There are so many movies more frightening and/or comical that made this one a waste of my time (yes, I watched it to the end).
Raccoon Valley (2018)
Creative and well made, but a little disappointing.
For the most part, I thought this was incredibly well-made. That being said, I really wanted to like the main character and couldn't. There was a lack of emotion to nearly every event that left me wanting something - anything. I accepted the slow pace of the story, but wanted more answers and felt it was unfinished like the previous reviewer.
Amber Alert (2012)
Annoying characters in what seemed like a good plot idea
I didn't mind the student filming type of style, but the stupidity of the characters was even pre-80s. There will always be some characters in movies that you feel you need to scream at to do the right thing - take the intelligent path - but this one has more than its fair share. In a very short time, I wanted the main guy to shut Sam up permanently, but, unfortunately, he wouldn't have had the guts to do it. In fact, he may be one of the lamest excuses for a man I've ever seen.
The idea of the movie had thrilling possibilities, but execution failed to deliver. Instead, we end up with a film full of idiotic decisions, lame police service, constant bickering, and a conclusion similar to Blair Witch - a dark room and most characters dead. Oh, and let's not forget the camera laying on the ground showing the last image it viewed. Ugghhh!
