Pushing Daisies (2007–2009)

I love Wonderfalls too, but Daisies is as good or better
4 December 2008
I hung on every episode of Wonderfalls, but there was an élan missing from it that Pushing Daisies has clearly realized. How could one not adore such a talented cast? I'd probably watch for Kristen Chenoweth alone, but having Lee Pace, Anna Friel, Chi McBride, AND Swoozie Kurtz in the mix as well sealed the deal. The campy tone is perfect. In fact, it's what saves the series from turning into Wonderfalls, which was, unhappily, not endowed with enough of the magic and wackiness that we find in Daisies. There is ample room for endlessly entertaining story lines, not to mention moments for the vocally blessed to break into song: who among us does not want to put voice to our own private soundtrack from time to time? I'm so happy that there is finally room for a slightly silly and unusual series such as Daisies to crowd its way into being a hit. I can't wait to see where this series takes us!

Better than one might be led to believe
16 October 2006
Although there is a silly side to this movie, I really don't think that its only value is as a curiosity. In reality, it was a singular vehicle for Ginger Rogers to flex her acting muscles, instead of merely being a sidekick in a dance routine. She is something to behold in this movie. And, I maintain that if you are a Cary Grant fan, it's nothing to sit through this slightly confectionery film. It is practically astonishing that the Jewish issue was addressed in a movie made in 1942. Finally, it's worth pointing out that any average film from this period is Shakespearean compared to the dreck on offer most of the time these days.

This is a better show than you might think

It still has the distinctively twisted Muppet humor. The music is great and very catchy. I never would have been able to get my toddler's teeth brushed without "Brush Brush Bree". I'm terribly sorry if the adults without their own kids can't hack it, but it beats out Barney, The Comfy Couch, and all the other tripe posing as quality children's TV. Yes, you've got the Disney touch, but still. I would watch this any day of the week, and have, over and over and over. And I must say, to paraphrase Sideshow Bob, it never made me want to vomit. At one point, I had my son's uncles (all into middle age) watching it with him, and they loved it. This from a bunch of manly, beer drinkin', football watchin' guys. And my marine corps bred husband loves it too.
