Interstellar (2014)
Top Tier Sci-Fi
Almost everything about this movie is incredible and breathtaking. It is extremely powerful and emotional. This is the pinnacle of Sci-Fi.
I will mention the primary negative, however: the voice audio is too low at time, and difficult to understand in some sections. I would recommed watching with subtitles.
There is one part where a character is in a hospital bed who is talking. There is very little clarity in this person's voice. I rewatched the scene 3 times and could still not make out everything this person was saying. The dialogue should have been re-recorded. I would consider this the worst part of the film for this reason. Subtitles can help you through that section, however.
This is an issue that exists in a few Nolan movies. It doesn't appear to bother him, but for people who have less than perfect hearing, it is an issue. So, turn on subtitles.
But, that's a small issue, really, when it comes to the epic scope of this masterpiece.
No Escape (2015)
Intense Chase Thriller
This flick is quite good. The thriller, edge-of your seat qualities are very strong here. There is a large amount of strength in this movie, from amazing directing & editing, to superb acting & action.
The two little girls did a wonderful job -- they have a strong acting career ahead of them.
And It was nice to see Pierce Brosnan here, which I didn't expect. I have always loved him since Goldeneye.
I'll add that there is a decent amount of explosions and gun battles to fulfull anyone's action needs here too.
I'll also say that gunfire felt realistic -- powerful, and strong with a hefty low-end. Most movies unerplay the sound of gunfire. When it is more realistic and powerful sounding, it just adds to the atmosphere of the film and increases the danger from gunfire.
What about the bad? The only issues I found was that there were a few scenes, I think about 3, that were out of focus. These should have gotten reshot, or not used at all. Two scenes are focuing on Owen Wilson's face, and the other is on Brosnan's face.
Anyways, this is a good movie! Give it a try.
Devil (2010)
An Easy To Watch, Quality Thriller
I'm not fond of the religious tones of this movie, and there are a few cheesy lines, however overall this is a really good thriller.
There are many decent aspects of this film: directing, editing, cinematography, sound design, music, and acting (mostly) are top tier.
The story is really simple and easy to follow, but it leaves you guessing until the end. The film is also very short -- I do wish it was fleshed out a bit more.
Even with the few negatives I've mentioned, I still rate this movie a 9/10 mainly becuase it is well made and very entertaining.
The thriller and tension aspects of this film shine strongly.
And yes most of the film is shot in a single elevator. This one-set focus (there are many other scenes outside the elevator, but the elevator is primary) is used in a lot of successful films; like Saw, and Hitchcock's Rope. It is a way to create pirticular feelings of that location that influence the whole film.
Anyways, I strongly recommend watching Devil.
GMO OMG (2013)
Quite Good
This is the best documentary on GMO's I've ever seen, and I've seen about 5 or so, not all of them, but a respectable amount.
Other reviewers poorly rate the film because there is little-to-no evidence that GMO's are harmful. Yeah, that is true, but that's not the point. GMO crops are best friends with pesticides and herbicides which they bath in, both of which have been linked to harmful health effects. Supporting GMO's means you support the increased use of harmful pesticides.
This documentary is well made. It's very stylistic and shot in a very interesting fashion. Visuals aside, plenty of normal and professional people are interviewed and questioned. It's a good mix of people's opinions on the matter, some being supporters of GMO's. The kid/family stuff gets a tad excessive at times, but that's not a huge complaint. It actually provided a decent backbone to the story: a father's journey.
When they all dressed up in make-shift hazmat suits and ran through the pesticide corn field--I found that quite clever.
Speaking of MONSANTO...
What stumps me is why on earth would anyone support such a dirty corporation (Monsanto) that refuses to label their products, kicks away anyone wanting an interview, has people who work in the govt to push forward Monsanto GMO's, messes with farmers NOT using Monsanto products, and who creates some of the most harmful and hazardous chemicals known to man and puts it on our food and in our homes all of which they're too afraid to release real data of.
Remember all those defoliants (known as AGENT ORANGE) the US used against the Vietnamese in the Vietnam War? Yeah, some of those were made by Monsanto. 20 million gallons of Agent Orange were sprayed over Vietnam between 1962 and 1971. Agent Orange killed or harmed every living thing it touched, and the Vietnam people are still suffering from it. 400,000 people were killed from Agent Orange. 500,000 people were deformed. Millions more still suffer today. That is all the work of, yes... you guessed it: MONSANTO.
They STILL could care LESS about people. It's all about money, as this documentary said. Monsanto is corruption at its finest. THAT is why they shouldn't be supported.
