Faltu (2006)
Superb story brilliantly executed.
Faltu is beautiful film with a brilliant storyline.Faltu is the story of a 20-year-old orphan called Faltu(Yash Pandit). It is about his search for the man who fathered him.Besides the life of Faltu, the movie revolves around a village and its people with a lot of dramatic events. Faltu is a movie that deals with the lives of the villagers and how everything turns out when a census official questions Faltu's parentage. It was very well known about Faltu's mother(Indrani Halder) but there was no information about who his father was.Faltu was never bothered about his identity until this official's question. The entire story of the film deals with human relations and how the guilt of having done something wrong haunts everyone in the village. They want to make up for their sins, but end up opening a new can of worms and spoiling a marriage. Anjan Das has beautifully directed the film which has a story written by Syed Mustafa.I have not seen a movie as such in a long long time and am sure Bengali audiences must have gone mad over this wonderful picture.
The Last Lear (2007)
A superb movie by Rituparno Ghosh.
Rituparno Ghosh's The Last Lear is a realistic, artistic and an excellent movie. I really liked the film being in English and feel this is the best way it could have been made considering the fact that it is about a Shakespearean actor. The story was really interesting, and the idea of taking an old, Shakespearean theater actor(Amitabh Bachchan) and casting him in a motion picture is really interesting.Really impressive to see all the other actors giving their best in the film other than Amitabh Bachchan. Every character is portrayed as a struggling person. In his way to become a film actor, we meet several characters through Amitabh ji's character,Harry. His co-star, Shabnam (Preity Zinta), a model-turned- actress who does not know how to act and what to do with her film career, and who has problems with her jealous husband; Siddharth (Arjun Rampal),an arrogant independent filmmaker; Vandana (Shefali Shah); and his confused nurse, played by Divya Dutta. The film was well written, although it does become a bit slow at times. Harry's character is wonderful - an artist who insists to work on his own artistic terms. I particularly liked Bachchan's scenes and his acting in the movie. Everything in the movie is really superb.Be it the direction, acting or screenplay.Hats off to the team of The Last Lear for such a splendid movie.
Do Dooni Chaar (2010)
Excellent movie, depicts the problems related to middle class family
If my friend hadn't told me that this is Arindam Sir's production,i would have not watched the movie.I am a big fan of Arindam sir, each time movie came from his production, surprises me.Again he came up with a different topic which depicts the middle class family problems.I belong to middle class family,my father is also a maths teacher in a school, even we cannot afford a car as my father's salary doesn't allow us to buy a car.I can relate this movie with my own family and there are very few movies which touches our heart. After a long time, the jodi of rishi ji and neetu ji came, they both looks too good. And there is no need to mention how great actors they both are.Apart from movie. It's a treat to see Rishi and Neetu Kapoor together on the screen as an understanding husband & wife trying to fulfill the demands of their two kids sincerely.Talking about their kids, both are good in their respective roles. Overall, movie is a complete entertainer.
Dosar (2006)
A Landmark in Bengali Cinema
Dosar is a Bengali movie produced by Arindam Chaudhuri's Planman Motion Pictures. The movie was directed by none other than Rituparno Ghosh starring Prosenjit Chatterjee and Konkona Sen Sharma as the lead in the movie. The story of Dosar revolves around Prosenjit Chatterjee & Konkona Sen Sharma, a happy couple until a car accident changes their life. The physical and mental trauma caused by the accident are portrayed with great skill and excellence by Prosenjit. He not only has to come to terms with the loss of a loved one but is faced with the daunting task of winning back his wife's trust. The movie is a brilliant art and both have contributed exceptionally well to the movie. The fact that both the stars have won awards for their respective roles shows the brilliance of the film. Konkona Sen has given arguably her best performance till date and stands at par with any legendary actress in Indian cinema after this movie. Dosar is at its best and no doubt Rituparno Ghosh is once again brilliant. The movie is a landmark in the world of Bengali cinema and my favourite Bengali movie.
