Star Trek: Discovery (2017–2024)

Good sci-fi, whatever it's called
9 October 2017
If you're looking for new episodes of a Star Trek series you used to love, this is not the show for you. If you are, however, just looking for a good sci-fi show, I highly recommend ST: Discovery. I'm 4 episodes in now, and if the makers manage to keep up this level I will religiously watch every episode as it comes out. The casting, acting, and camera work create an atmosphere that will grab you and keep you hooked. The characters are believable and likable. The story lines are interesting, and keep the suspense high at all times. If I have to give one downside, it's that the Klingon language is not easy to listen to. I've noticed a very loud minority giving bad 1 star reviews, but note the average rating is still very high. It's worth a look!

Move along, nothing to see here

I'm struggling to find something positive to say about this movie..

Proof of the Devil is nothing but a cash-in on the horror fad. The acting is a bit weak. The characters are exactly what you'd expect. It uses the cheapest tricks in the book to try to startle you, but not well enough to achieve it. It doesn't catch an atmosphere. Nothing visually pleasing about it either. Well, I admit Kate, played by Lisa Mackel Smith, is pretty if you like older women.

It's just a copy of a story you've seen a million times before, most notably in The Last Exorcism. It adds nothing new.

If you're tempted to watch this I'd recommend you watch the Last Exorcism instead. Or if you've seen that already watch Noroi. There's nothing to see here even (or especially) for a horror junkie

Alone (2015– )

Very very highly recommended

I've never felt the need to write a review on IMDb, but the few people who don't give this show a high rating seem to be the only ones writing reviews.

Alone is not so much a survival show as a psychology experiment. The contestants are dropped in a dangerous wilderness with just the barest necessities and left to their own devices. Besides having to find shelter, food, and drinkable water, they have to deal with being alone all the time for as long as they can stand. Some of you probably don't realize how hard it is to deal with loneliness. Just watch a prison show and see how people break down in solitary confinement.

The one thing they have for company is a little hand camera, and the contestants that last long enough really open up to it. The longer the season lasts the more they bare their soul for all to see. To me it's the most fascinating TV I've ever seen. It makes you appreciate your food, your home, and the people around you more, just by showing you were you'd be without them.
