Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)
It's kind of okay but lacks charm
The first ant man movie is in my top 5 MCU list. This one didn't make any sense on the other hand. It neither contributes to the larger MCU storyline nor does it stand out as a good stand alone film. There is no antagonist in movie or any deeper layers to compensate for it. The first half was crisp, funny, and had a lot many cool moments to surprise you only if skimmed the trailers. The second half was just stretched and had no binding momentum. You can still give it a watch as a one time outing, but don't expect much.
Sicario (2015)
Underrated, gripping, and real
The action set pieces are terrific, there is heavy realism, the morality aspect binds the entire movie together. Great performances from all actors.
Black Panther (2018)
Not as great as the hype but not bad either
I am all for diversity but that's not the parameter to judge the quality of the movie. Black Panther's hype is mostly due to the diversity factor. That's the why the nine and ten stars reviews are flawed. But the one star reviews are even more ridiculous. Just because you expect the movie to be some way and it isn't, does that make it a bad movie? All the other levels become irrelevant and directly fall to one star? The snobs giving one stars and two stars because they didn't like the ten star reviews don't know what a review is. You are judging other people's reviews instead of the movie itself. Now, coming to the review. The story is pretty straightforward, the CGI is awful in many places, and the African accents are not accurate. The music, acting performances, and direction however are really good. It's a good movie. You can definitely watch it once.
Sacred Games (2018)
Had the potential to be perfect but it's a great start anyhow
For someone who is familiar with the state of the Indian Cable TV entertainment since the past one and a half decade, this series is the breeze of fresh air that we have been longing for. Only streaming is the way out of the regular Indian soap opera monopoly. If those shows and this series were to be put on the same scale, this one would easily be a ten on ten. This series is so good though that it can be put on the scale of Narcos, Breaking Bad, and The Wire. Those three are the real ten on ten on the global metric. On that scale, Sacred Games in my opinion is a eight as of now, but it could definitely push into the nines or even higher if the future seasons are further polished to reduce some flaws.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Not groundbreaking but definitely well crafted
I am not into horror movies. I wasn't even actually scared really to be honest. There is this slow tension horror that is maintained throughout the running time. A lot of ingenuity in direction, screenplay, and background music. A lot many new scenes that are not the same old horror cliches. Technically, it doesn't have depth like a typical sci-fi or the bone chilling thumping horror but it's definitely worth enjoying once.
Westworld: Vanishing Point (2018)
Second best episode of the season
This episode was perfect. The Man in Black, Teddy, and Bernard close up on their arcs in this episode. The visuals and cinematography are great as always. Previous episode was about consciousness. This one was about choice and free will. This is exactly what I want from the show.
